[Pro] Deleting resources

I am attempting to remove large items from the resource folder, a zipped pdf and a 165mb mov. These two items slow and sometimes stop the upload process because of their length, and because Freeway wants to upload the entire site every time.

Here’s what I’ve tried. First deleted the files from the local resources folder. On upload they magically reappear. My thought was that they are already on the server and won’t be changed so no need to upload ever again. Deleted (moved to trash) emptied trash, same result.

Next step, though I did not prefer to because I wanted to keep them on the site, I went to the server and deleted them there. Then deleted them in resources (local) and emptied trash. Started upload and low and behold the files showed up in resources again and in the upload progress message.

The local site folder (and its resources subfolder) are not under your control. Freeway will automatically populate this folder according to changes you make within your Freeway document. Think of it as a local cache of the server’s site folder that Freeway manages directly before uploading the final result to your server. In practical terms, the only thing this folder is actually used for is to provide a local staging copy of the site that you can navigate when you use Preview in Browser within Freeway.

So this is why when you delete the file from that folder, it magically returns the next time you publish. In order to change this folder, you will need to change the Freeway document so that the file can’t return. My guess is that you used the Link to File or Image Link to File (or the PDF variants of these) to create the link to the PDF or Zip. Change that to be a simple manual external URL link, and enter the relative path to the file(s). Manually upload the file where you told Freeway to find it using a third-party FTP application like Transmit or Fetch, and you should be all set.

Thanks Walt. I did use Graphic Link to File for the zipped pdf. Thing is there are over 300 pgfs linked the same way and that’s the only one giving me trouble. I used ScrityLightBox for the quicktime. Anyway, I know how the beast works now so I can work around it.
