[Pro] Display issues with IE browser

I created a small site for a local service company. I have used a couple of Exhibeo functions within the site and one page has three different styles on it. Everything seems fine on Safari, Firefox and Chrome. But not on IE8. I looked at the site using a laptop with XP & IE8 on it. Three of the Focus or Bloxx actions don’t display a picture, but will play the slides when the blank picture is clicked on. The Impress action shows ALL the slides at once, stacked on top of each other.

I haven’t seen anyone ask about issues with IE and Exhibeo. Is my site an anomaly?

I, also had a problem, on the home page of the site, where I have a Showcase slide show and a Focus action. The Focus would not display or play. I have since removed it, thinking that there was a conflict. Is there a conflict between the two?

Thankx,

David H.

Thanks Dave,

The groupings that are not displaying on my IE8 are;

Termite Damage
Cherry End Tables (both on the left side of the page
The Impress Group in the middle of the page, large green box.
Wood Art projects, which are in the lower right side of the page near the bottom.

Two groupings are showing the top photo; My next project and the grouping to the left of the Wood Art projects.

Hope that helps.,

David H.

Could it be image size or load times? I clicked through on Mac Safari 6 and
was initially confronted with blank icons for most of the page. Eventually
they load up but only after an uncomfortably long delay that I could have
mistook for a different problem.

Best,

Ernie Simpson

Using XP3 and IE8 that page is quite messed up for me. I see large white rectangles to the right of the 2 first gallery images which have no image. Those 2 galleries do work when clicked on.

Also the next Exhibeo gallery is very messed up with unreadable brown and green text on every gallery image.

Works fine in XP3 Firefox 18 and Safari and all Mac browsers.

My understanding of IE8 is that Exhibeo doesn’t work fully but it will function enough to make it useable - just. I tried some of my own Exhibeo stuff with IE8 and the result appeared to be acceptable but your page is far worse than mine were.

Hope this helps.

That is what is disturbing. I purchased Exhibeo NOT for 30 - 40% of the Internet users out there. How is this going to make clients happy when this effect works on everything except Internet Explorer?

I added nothing to any of these actions except; photos, text and styling tweaks inside of Exhibeo. I saw nothing before purchasing this program that I shouldn’t expect the program to work on Microsoft Explorer.

I would like an explanation as to why this acceptable to expect that this product only works for 30 - 40% of the internet users and that anyone with a PC running IE will get garbage.

Now, I am suppose to shell out $60.00 to upgrade to 6 ???

IE 8 (along with the rest of XP) will be end-of-life in another month. Microsoft will no longer support it. They have been pouring money into getting people to upgrade, with splashy TV and magazine ads, and while this is entirely self-serving of them (they will get paid for all of those upgrades) it is entirely unreasonable to continue to worry about a browser or OS version that was last updated nearly ten years ago.

I do not lose any sleep over Netscape 4, either.

The past two years have seen a growing number of high-profile sites completely deprecate the use of IE8 – banks, insurance companies, web applications like Basecamp, etc. – because the cost of maintaining what amounts to two completely different sites (one valid, and one broken from a standards perspective) outweighs the cost of losing those customers who cannot figure out how to download a free replacement browser.

Even those corporate weasels who have enforced the use of IE as old as 6 on their intranets will finally have to bite the bullet and get on the standards train (which has been chugging steadily forward since 2001 or so). No corporate IT will continue to install unsupported software, after all – they make bankers look like radicals by comparison.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature!

I think you just need to accept that IE8 (and below) doesn’t allow Exhibeo to function fully. It does however, allow it to function in a reduced capability which I consider to be enough to use it.

The way that I see it is that for those still using IE8, they will be used to a very unsatisfactory internet browsing experience, i.e. lots of popups, error messages, half the visible window lost to lady boy cam toolbars, etc. SO that a few corrupted images or an image missing will not put them off your well crafted site.

Well, thank you for the explanation. I appreciate the insight and retract my, as my wife would say - hateful speak. After two hours in the corner, contemplating my actions, I will return to building something.

Thanks, Walt and all who contributed.

A final thought. Is it prudent to place a banner on the site that errors on the page may exist with IE8 or below?

Or, should I just leave it be and ignore it.
