[Pro] Doctypes

Hi all,

I notice a lot of doctypes being a simple these days, and have encountered some script instructions which say to have this as the page doctype.

As far as I can see in Freeway 5.5, this isn’t an option?..and FW automatically outputs a 4 or 3.2 or 1.0 XHTML doctype.

Does it matter?

Hugh

That’s the HTML5 doctype. If you’re using FW5 or below that’s not an option.

Freeway 6 can make these. It’s a standard HTML5 DOCTYPE.

H Todd,

I’m using FW5.5…?

But as I say, does it matter? Would the doctype have anything to do with a piece of javascript (for a shopping cart) not working?

Most likely not. There is an Action you can use to turn an ordinary Freeway 5 page into HTML5. It will not correct the JavaScript error which I suspect is at the heart of your problem. If you haven’t already, turn on the Develop menu (it’s in the Advanced tab of the Safari Preferences dialog). Then, while viewing your problem page, open up the JavaScript Console (Develop / Show Error Console) and see what the specific issue is.

Hi Walter,

Yes I’m looking at it in the safari console but can’t see any erros - what am I looking for? Should it highlight it in some way? It’s not showing any obvious error markings (red lettering, underlining, flashing lights…)

The guy from romancart said its probably the doctype error. I’ll test that manually by deleting the published doctype and replacing it.
