[Pro] Downloading MP3 files

I have long list of custom ringtones to make available.

A simple link from the list index to the MP3 file opens a new tab or window and plays the cut. From there, one must return to the index, right-click on the title and select whichever command is appropriate (“Save Link As…”, etc.).

Is there a technique which would simplify this? Ideally, keep everything on the one page, or at the least, construct a button one could click to download instead of the right-click thing?

Have a search on the archives of this list for “force download”. You should find several posts by me, and more by Tim Plumb, detailing exactly how to set this up. What you are doing is forcing the browser to ignore its own good counsel as to what to do with certain file types. This can be a hit-or-miss proposition. A foolproof way to manage this is to Zip each file or the entire collection. Zip files are always downloaded, except in fairly ancient versions of IE, where the flawed security model shows them as a folder full of files. (It’s a big “Howdy, Sailor!” to any viruses you may want to install on your PC.)
