[Pro] downloading vcard in windows 7 from a site created in Freeway 3.1.15

I have a vcard download link on an elderly clients site (the site - not the client) It works fine on every browser except Windows 7 where it opens as a text code. Can anyone suggest a solution within my Freeway document that won’t strain my failing mind?

Hello Peter, I solved this problem wiht the help of the Softpress KnowledgeBase: http://www.softpress.com/kb/questions/61/Forcing+a+File+to+Automatically+Download
I’ve only replaced .pdf with .vcf. There is also an explanation why a browser cannot render/force download specific type of files. If I remember correctly Walt D. explained it on Freewaytalk some time ago.

There is also the Force Download action - which requires PHP - this shouldn’t be an issue if you are hosting with any Industry Standard Hosting companies.

I have just looked at this action and it states “compatible with
Freeway 4 and 5”. The site I am worrying about was built a long time
ago in 3.1.15. Will the action work here or do I have to risk
udating into 5 first?

Thanks for your help by the way!

Cheers

Peter

You did say it was an elderly site - didn’t realise you were using elderly software as well!

Try the action and if it doesn’t work then try changing the action file suffix to .act3 instead of .fwaction

If you can use it then you wont have to mess about on the server but if you dont want to upgrade then the server method is not that difficult and we can hold your hand through the process.

This is the link I mentioned in my post before: http://freewaytalk.net/thread/view/25813#m_25814
I use actually the solution WaltD recommended. It is different from the KnowledgeBase hint. I remember that the KnowledgeBase workaround worked well for some time. but suddenly the site worked anymore (I think it has something to do with the host of the site). Only replace the .dot with .vcf It is nothing complicated.

Hi David,

I sent a reply a couple of days ago but I guess you didn’t get it!

Thanks for the advice. I bit the bullet and transfered this elderly
site to Freeway 5.4 and created a nightmare which I have mainly
managed to sort out. I just have one query left.

I have done away with scolling layers and increased the type size so
I need the page to scroll but it doesn’t. Probably to do with
frames. How can I get the main frame panel to scroll if the text
overflows the browser window?

I have not uploaded the new version yet but the 3.5.15 version is
still active and has the same problem. see <http://www.andrew-
sheard.com> to view the structure.

Cheers

Peter
