But … a third party CMS ain’t that big a deal when it’s build into the app you’re working with. It is when you have to manually crowbar it in … am I right?

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look at Pinegrow, I did look at Blocs sometime ago, but not sure if that one appeals, I’ll take another look.
Dave, I want to avoid WordPress as much as possible, I really dislike what they do and they way it works. I like to work from a blank page - from scratch and create and place images, information, etc freely. Yes, I don’t want to “crowbar” in CMS or login sections.

Any recommendations for an app that will enable secure login for certain pages on a website and an easy native CMS?
You still haven’t told us what you are trying to achieve.
You may know but we can only guess unless you tell us.
The more information you can share about what you are trying to do the better we can offer suggestions.

Hi Dave
Creating a new website - client’s current one is 10+ years old, with small ecommerce (shop) only about 20 products so probably don’t need a widget or plug-in, it also needs a login section with three of the pages and ability for CMS. Overall we’re looking at about 50 pages.
Is this sufficient - not much more to say at this stage.

After 2 difficult days with Blocs 2.2, I’m inclined to stick with Freeway for now and then transition over to RapidWeaver. I think the thing that is most appealing to me about RW is the depth of users and forums like freeway.talk.
This forum has helped me tremendously over the years and I must say that having a dedicated user group is a “tool” I always want at my disposal.
My initial response to the Softpress news was to scramble around finding something “new”, but then finding something that has been around a while with lots of users seems more comforting to me.
(Could also be my age as I quickly approach the big 7 0)

Unsure, it depends on the client and how many people she wants to give access to - read only with possible downloads.

Well, some time ago I bought Sparkle, and have since spent a LOT of time getting to know it’s foibles and conversing with the developers, who are very nice guys and quick to respond.
I give it 9 out of 10 for ease of use and a very nice ui. It’s missing some key features (which I can mainly work around) and it’s badly flaky around page size and the Menu feature, but I’ve eventually managed to build two small sites, and they mostly look ok. (I made a few improvements while I was at it).

I’ve got a list of strangenesses that I think they need urgently to address if they’re to continue selling Sparkle for actual money (especially the lack of a searchable Help which is a major drawback because some elements, such as Sections, are totally incomprehensible), plus an even longer list of things that I think they need to add soon if the program is going to be successful, and they tell me they are working on these.
But my problem is this:
I now have to start building my bigger sites - which will many many many hours of work. Do I risk running with a small company who are naturally going to take a long time to get round the the fixes that I badly need to see, and who - if they don’t make the progress both they and I hope for - could wind up like Freeway leaving me back at square one, or do I try to find something else that’s similar to Freeway and Sparkle - because none of the many other programs mentioned in this long thread came close?
And if so, where do I go?
It’s decision time.

I’ve been extremely happy with Sparkle, and was able to duplicate my freeway site with only a few insignificant changes. But with much less effort and many fewer problems. In much less time. It responds well to the five devices I’ve checked, again with little effort.
Initially I was bit concerned about having them not survive but I got the sense there were only a couple of folks in the company which makes them more apt to survive I think. It also does mean that their upgrades are perhaps slower than otherwise, but I think it’s a sound business decision on their part.
It sort of reminds of a guy who owned a recording studio I worked at once where everything be had was paid for by cash, never any credit at all. It meant he didn’t have all the bells and whistles that other studios might have had but he survived easily when things went a bit south. And he still won several grammys.
Currently we have version 2. I’m happy to use it and wait to see what versions 3 and 4 and 5 have to offer. It’s a great program with lots of very nice features and I’m happily waiting for the next version.
Freeway’s demise filled us all with a bit of fear of it happening again, but I’ve decided to use what works really well for me and will wait and see what happens.

Yes, I think that’s probably my view too.
They responded very quickly to a major problem I had, found the bug at once, showed me a workaround, which worked perfectly, and will defeat the bug in the next update.
I may be an atypical customer with my reliance on lots of strange embeds, which is one of the areas where more work is needed in my opinion, but if you just want to build normal sites and can avoid the things which are still not quite as most would expect it’s very good indeed.
