[Pro] EMERGENCY help needed (thanks)

Hi,

Sorry,
rare emergency. It is amazing how everything can work at night, then the next day all of a sudden error or problem.

When I go to upload my site, is starts to upload then very quickly gets uploading index.html and gives an error.

cannot complete upload becuase a file cannot be uploaded to server. 553 cannot open file.

The site works, I tried my FTP and could not get to replace index.html that way yet.

Thanks if you know what has happened or what I can do.

Barry

ok,

I made a change to a different page.
Brought it over in my FTP program, then I see this

553 Can’t open that file: Read-only file system
PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (162,144,86,194,31,107)

so it seems it is not just my .index but other pages too that are not accepting changes but are working

??

I AM at school now so not sure if this has anything to do with anything.
Last night I was at home.

I could upload at school yesterday; maybe something changed?

hmmm

It sounds like an ISP fault. The entire filesystem that contains your site has been mounted incorrectly. Unless you own/lease/run an entire machine all others on that disk volume at the ISP will have the same problem.

There used to be a problem with one version of Linux several years ago that if a disk drive was too slow to respond it was unmounted automatically, and then re-mounted automatically as read-only. It should have been fixed by now, but some regarded it as a feature so you never know.
