Me too. I searched a bit on Twitter and w/ Google, but didn’t find much. I was kinda surprised there wasn’t more buzz about it. Anyone else see anything?
I was curious if anyone had seen any mention of Softpress closing anywhere other than small blogs or discussion lists. Usually this kind of thing generates some media attention.

I didn’t get any email notification either - but my web design days were mostly behind me anyway. However I really appreciated Freeway as a tool and the Freeway Community in which I used to participate some years back - and see a few old-timers here at the ‘sort of wake’.

Being in a benighted situation where I am not allowed to hire a staff (which would radically increase revenues) and where we put in precisely 50 hour week, I don’t have time to become a web guru. Because of this, Freeway was a godsend - at least until responsive hit the stage. FW’s approach to responsive was is not as good as it might have been and, like everyone else, I waited to see if they would nail it in 7, but that didn’t happen.
If there is anyone out there – such as Affinity – is up to the challenge of creating a powerful, modern, and user-friendly web app, I would be first in line to buy it.

I, too, never received a message. I was just getting ready to upgrade for an Intel machine (G5 works great, but not Intel of course - is this even still possible??) and have used FW since FW3 and before that it was called something else (Express was, anyway). Seems odd that, having used the same email address for decades, with numerous CS and TS contacts, no word. Surprising, even.
It is indeed sad. I suppose the only alternative is Dreamweaver, which I never liked and don’t even know if it’s still available or even current.

No email here either - though I always receive the marketing emails and have on occasion even emailed personally with Joe and others at Softpress.
It’s totally depressing but I suppose the writing has been on the wall for a very long time - since responsive design came into being, The UI became more and more obtuse for anyone not familiar with the program to even just get a simple responsive site up and running. Even dropping one’s own content into templates became messy.
But in fairness, for those up to speed FW was an excellent tool - and this list has been one of the most helpful group of people I’ve ever seen - very difficult to replace.
I bought every update, many templates (even though I didn’t use them - just to play with them), bought Exhibeo 1 & 2 - which I really hope will reincarnate from the ashes… maybe under a new owner.

If that’s a philosophical question, then I feel what you’re saying! If your question was more about the practical future of FreewayTalk, then that’s been stated publicly by ex-Softpressers that the server will continue to run as long as they have the funds to do so. That could be a very long time, or not.
I set up a Google Groups mailing list at https://groups.google.com/group/freewaytalk as a hedge against the inevitable, back when it seemed as though the lights could go off on this server very soon. That no longer seems to be a thing to worry about, but there is a growing group of Freeway expats there discussing (gasp) hand-coding and CSS and craft, as well as ways to bash Freeway into writing more excellent code. Give it a try as well.

One has to wonder - if someone might buy up what’s left in the rubble and, if not revitalize it - keep it on life support for a time? Or make it open source? Seems a total waste as there are some very good bits.

I believe that a lot of these options are being discussed, but remember with the dissolution of a company, there are usually lots of people standing in line with their pay me shirts on, and we will hear about the results after everything else has been wrapped up. I know that the owners and management of Softpress love Freeway unapologetically, and would rather it was out in the world (and updated from time to time). But they have other masters…

Like you Robert, I’m finalising 2 big projects in FW 7 - one going live this week after MONTHS of work, Bloody typical! Thing is, if I know that I can adjust and edit on FW for next 6 months that will give me time to revaluate things.

I am gutted, this is the first of me knowing of the demise of FW. As with others, if I hadn’t come on here this morning, for another reason, I would not have known about this. It is getting depressing, the amount of things which build you up and then BOOM!!, the rug is pulled from under you and you’re left high and dry. I spent a huge amount of time learning how to use Dream Weaver, but the complication of it caused me to look for an alternative. When I stumbled upon FW, I thought all my problems were solved. I spent HOURS transferring all my existing DW websites over to FW and any new ones were built from scratch using FW. The learning curve for both DW and FW have used up a HUGE amount of my time - now it seems all a big waste of time - I think it’s time for me to retire!

I have been testing FW7 on sierra and everything seems to work correctly so I would say that if thats the case and the final release of the next OSX comes is similar then I would hazard a guess that we have a few years at least… not just months.
