[Pro] Exhibio

I have just bought Exhibio, and I think it will be just wonderful for what I want to do - photos with text. Two quick questions about the text in full sized mode:

  1. The text covers the bottom of the photo. Can I adjust the photo size to stop this happening? Or is there a show/hide option for text (like I have used in my previous sites!)?

  2. The navigational arrows at bottom right cover the text. Can I avoid this?

With thanks,

Paul

As an addendum to the previous post, my link is

I need to find a solution to Problem 2 above. I can live with Problem 1, although it should be possible to resize the picture to sit above the text – surely not by trial and error?

With thanks as always,

Paul

The first one will be tricky since the code in the theme adjusts the size of the item to fit the window. One thing you could do is make the controls slightly transparent.

The second one is possible by adding the following bit of CSS to your page:

.xb-thumblie_caption { right: 100px; }

I’ll get both those issues logged.

Joe

… spending a padding-right: 100px for both caption styles?

Sounds encouraging guys, but please give me some details! Which program are we in? And where does ‘the bit of CSS’ get added?! Sorry: I’m just a user!

Go there to Page → HTML MarkUp

In the upcoming dialog, search for the drop-down picker entry of

before </head>

and copy/paste the following entire line of code:

<style> .xb-thumblie_caption { right: 100px; } </style>

This is adding a “gap” to the right of your caption in the same size of the width of the control to prevent you from overlapping.

Hope this helped you out.

Cheers

Well now Thomas, I have done as instructed, and the narrowing of the text box on the slides has been achieved. However, there has been an unexpected outcome in the thumbnails page, as can be seen on

http://paulscottinfo.ipage.com/cathedrals/wangaratta/holytrinity/TN1.html

Not quite what I wanted! The transitions between slides are often slow too.

For full width slides, the result is rather scrappy too, with the text box and the arrow box having different heights. It would be better if the picture image stood above the text with a completed white frame.

I have to say, Exhibio does some great things and very easily, but is it a program still in the making?

Best wishes,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Sorry – sent that message in a bit of a hurry before so didn’t give you all the details!

  1. Open up the Page menu and select HTML Markup
  2. Cut the code you entered from the "Before ” section (should still be the one that’s selected from when you put the code in there previously)
  3. Select “Before ” (the / is important here)
  4. Paste the code in
  5. Ok the dialog and try uploading again

Hope this helps,

Joe

Thanks Joe, but I think our posts have crossed.

A further idea … I would be happy to make the text less intrusive by combining the title with the text - running one into the other on the same line, providing I had a way of making the title bold.

Of course, this does nothing to resolve the above thumbnail problem!

Nope - you didn’t. It is said:

before </head>

READ carefully point 3 of Joe’s latest comment - the head with the backslash in front!!!

Above website now ‘finished’ and I’m very pleased with the result. I wish to ask about adding links. I can add some typing where it says ‘Add hyperlink’ but is something then supposed to happen?

With some of the cathedral windows I would like to link to a separate Freeway page with a full sized image. It would then be good to have a reverse link to get back to the original image.

On the other hand, if this is not an option, perhaps I could add a link in Freeway below the thumbnail and work from there?

With thanks,

Paul

Hi Panel … Here is my latest Exhibio website:

http://paulscottinfo.ipage.com/cathedrals/griffith/stalbans/

All working well, except that I am experiencing long pauses (with white screen) between slides. Is this a problem with the program, or do I just have a ‘slow line’? I have 75 photos loaded. Would a smaller number of photos help?

With thanks,

Paul

I am experiencing long pauses (with white screen) between slides.

Your image file sizes are too big - you should try and size them to match the display output size - ie if they are set to display at 800 x 600 then import them at 800 x 600.

Are they progressive - that would help too.

I think Exhibeo resizes them Dave, doubling the size from the set size in
Exhibeo for retina resolution.

I didn’t find it all that laggy, but you might want to limit the number of
images in each gallery - break them up into smaller groups. that might help.

Hmmm … perhaps this one will be resolved when my connection gets up to speed!

A question about sizing. On my iMac, I have sized the thumbnails to comfortably fit the width of the screen four across. I have a friend running Windows for whom the thumbnails are quite small, still four across but only filling about a third of the width of his screen.
Can I do anything to overcome this?
Thanks as always,

Paul

I think Exhibeo resizes them

As I am still running Snow Leopard I haven’t actually used Exhibeo - probably a bad assumption on my part.

Looks fine on my Vista laptop running IE7

What size screen/res does he have?

Hurrah! My connection is up to speed again, and no problems now with slow website loading. I’ll check your question out with my friend David, but I’m pleased my site is appearing correctly on most(?) computers!
