Is there no way to make a variable-size container for different page content? Using a markup item in every configuration I can imagine, the content only overflows the markup item at its initial size. The simplest option seemed to be creating an item the width of the page, adding the background tile image, and padding it to the desired width. That works fine, except the markup item doesn’t expand with the content, and there’s no background beyond its original size. Height is deselected in the inspector box. Driving me nuts, it is, not that it’s a long trip!
Locate the box on your page called item3. While it is selected (corner handles showing) change the overflow setting in the left-most tab of the inspector to “hidden”. Yes, I realize that is counter-intuitive, but please try it and see what happens.

It didn’t make any change at all. It didn’t extend the background, but it didn’t hide the content, either. I think since I’m using white text, it would be too difficult to work on content without that grey background, anyway. The changes I’ve made since my previous file got corrupted have already made it a much more efficient site.
There’s no practical difference between PHP and HTML for a layout – it all comes down to HTML in the end when the server renders it. The key is getting the PHP to appear where you want it to, without getting wrapped in a P tag (as Freeway is wont to do with inline Markup Items.

I gave up on the php approach and am just using an HTML item for the content. I think that will work better anyway.
