[Pro] Facebook and Twitter buttons

Hi

Sorry if this has been covered before, I’ve looked and couldn’t find the solution.
If you look at the link you will see the style of Facebook and Twitter buttons I would like (or something similar) but definitely just the letters “f” and “t”. The buttons are on the lower right-hand side of the page, underneath the twitter feed. Does anyone know how I would achieve this?
Thanks in advance.
Adam

Hi Adam

If you are just looking for the graphics:

If you Google - Free social media icons - you will find loads!

Then just link the action to them.

Hi Trev

Thank you very much for your response. Would you be able to give me a brief, bullet-point description of how to link the action to the image? Not very skilled here.

Regards

Hi Adam

There are couple of methods to achieve access to twitter and facebook on your web page.

The 1st method (and easiest) is to simply link to the twitter or facebook pages form the icons on your page - (ie: the t and f icons as the example page in your link)

2nd method is to use the inbuilt freeway action on your freeway page where you can add a Facebook activity feed panel (ie a snippet of recent stuff from the facebook page “live” in a panel on your web page and also add a Tweet button or a Twitter follow button.

The first method is very simple - you just place the t and f icons where you like and simply link to the respective pages using and external link that will open the twitter or facebook page in a new browser window.

The second method is easy too - where you just insert the Facebook Activity feed Action (Freeway version 5.5.6 & v6 has this inbuilt) - and fill in your details in the action panel and do the same for the Twitter follow button or Tweet button using an Action .

Have a think about which method you want on you site and if I can be of any further help on which way you would like it to appear - just ask - don’t worry about not being ‘skilled’ I have been using Freeway for years and am still learning all the time and getting lots of excellent help here on freewaytalk.

Just remember, the second method is creating a massive privacy issue for you and for anyone who visits your site. Facebook and Twitter both use tracking systems to figure out who friends you and who visits you and so forth. When you use the Action (or any snippet of code that either of these sites may give you to embed in source code) you are opening a firehose of data between your site and their servers.

True, they will still get a Referrer header from the first technique, but the overall effect is no different than any other link on the Web. The second is really kinda scary if you think about it.

Forgot to elaborate on this point. When you add this snippet of code (either by hand or Action) you allow Twitter or Facebook to see your traffic – who visits your page, whether each visitor has a Twitter or Facebook cookie or not, what page they just came from, all the gory details of their computer, browser, connection, etc. – whether they click on the little button or not. Read that last bit over again.
