[Pro] File Size Limitations in Freeway Pro 5.5 version 5.6.5

Suddenly I am unable to open Freeway Pro File after saving. I can open the backup file but I have lost all my additions and edits. Is there a file size limitation? The File size is at 172MB where as the Backup is 166MB. This the second time it has happened on the same project with the last two saves.

Hi Wayne,

I had the same problem some time ago.

I don’t know if there’s a file size limitation, but open larger files depends on your computer memory and processor (I think…)

My solution to solve that issue was very simple (and works fine!): first, create sub domains on your server; then split your file and save the 2 or 3 “sub-files” to the sub domains: i.e document setup, site folder, select, etc, and upload (correct the parameters) or publish

And don’t forget to edit, resources, resample all.

Maybe’s not the correct way to solve your problem but works fine for me

Thank you Jeb. This portion of the site is a sub-domain already. All other files open just fine. I’m not sure if there is a corruption in the file or not. When I doubled click it won’t open, or try to Open it from the Menu nothing happens. This is the second time I’ve been able to open the freeway.bak file but not the updated Freeway File to which I made all the changes. Granted it’s a large site with many folders and files which are all resampled throughout. I’m kind of dead in the water if I can’t open and modify this file, to which changes will need to made all the time, it’s not static.

I understand you perfecty. I can’t say nothing more to help you, except the file could be too large and you need to do another split (I have 6 or 7 sub-domains)

Then try the freeway support. They’re very helpfull and they certainly help you with more knowledge.

Hope you can solve that

I don’t think your site is all that large. When I worked on the Softpress site, my main Freeway 3 file was over 300MB (mostly embedded high-res graphics). It took a fair while to save and open, but did so without trouble. I realize that Freeway 6 is a much different application, and I haven’t tried to make anything nearly that ambitious in recent versions, but the size alone doesn’t look fishy to me.

Are you no longer able to open it at all, or is there an inflection point some number of saves ago where it will open, while the current version cannot? You may want to go back in time through Time Machine and find an earlier iteration, and see if you can recreate the changes from your last published edition of your HTML. See if in the process you can recreate the issue. (Save often!)

It might be a corrupted source file (image or video). That, and bad fonts, are the only things that can really bring Freeway down, in my long history with the application.
