[Pro] Flash animations on Freeway

A bit of a broad question - I’ve always steered away from using Flash on my site as I sometimes find it slow to load or problematic on other sites.

I’m using a sequence timer on my home page to scroll through some images - this is not as slick as a Flash animation, in fact I’ve had a few problems with it. Perhaps I could use Flash instead using the EasyWebAnimator purchased through the Softpress store?

Does anyone have any experience using Flash in Freeway, if so any tips or pointers? The creative side of my brain gets quite excited when I think about all of the things I could do with it!

Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony,
Flash is a plug-in technology on the web so as long as your visitor
has Flash installed then they will see your images. Looking at Adobe’s
figures for Flash penetration (http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/flashplayer/version_penetration.html
) you can see that even in emerging markets they claim to have over
90% of all desktop machines covered.
Mobile devices are another matter as some (like the iPhone and iPad)
don’t support Flash at all. Here you may want to think about supplying
these users with alternative content, either in the form of video or
HTML. Freeway also makes creating alternative content for the iPad and
iPhone quite easy with the QuickTime Reference Movie action; http://www.softpress.com/products/greatfeatures/iphone/

At the end of the day it is up to you to assess your target audience
and their ability to view embedded Flash. Easy Web Animator has a
number of pre-canned templates for slideshows and you can even roll
your own given a bit more time and effort.

Download and try the demo of Easy Web Animator if you haven’t already (http://www.softpress.com/products/companion/easy-web-animator/
) and drop the resulting SWF animation in your Freeway page. You
should find that it just works.
Regards,
Tim.
