[Pro] FLV Player Not Working On iOS5

Hi Everyone,

The FLV Player action is not working on iOS5 for the iphone or ipad. It does work on iOS4. We are on Freeway 5.6.1 (6386). Our FLV Player action is on v2.3.3.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

NOT WORKING

  • iPad 2 - iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

  • iPhone 4S - iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

  • iPhone 4 - iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

WORKING

  • iPhone 3 - iOS 4.0 (8A293)

Hi Dave,

Here a link. When loaded on a desktop plays fine. On the iOS5 it’s a blank page.

If I change Safari’s user agent to iPhone 4.3.3 I get a blank page too. Not sure what that tells us though.

Hi guys,

This is a known bug that we’ve fixed internally. A new update should be available soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Joe

Any update on this thread? Does flv player v2.3 work on the latest ipad? I am thinking of getting one if it works.

Absolutely nothing based on Flash (FLV == FLash Video) will work on any iOS device, and only a vanishingly small percentage of Android mobile devices. HTML5 video (see VideoJS, Sublime Player, HTML5 Video Actions) will work on iOS, Android, and all major desktop browsers. It’s always a better idea to target the fastest-growing part of your audience (mobile) and worry about the stragglers with progressive enhancement. VideoJS and Sublime Player both provide a Flash-based “shim” for anyone without a modern browser.

I am sorry. Your answer is an ‘yes’ or a ‘no’? Just to clarify, I am not using a browser. What I have is a flv.exe which plays .flv files (videos downloaded from youtube). I am hoping I can put it on ipad and play my music videos. Currently I am using my windown xp laptop. That’s the only funciton I have to have if I switch from laptop to ipad for the light-weight and long battery life.

No, .exe is a Windows Executable file, it won’t run on a Mac or an iPad. As far as I know, there is nothing available to play Flash video at all on an iPad (or any other iOS device). That said, any video in FLV format can be easily transcoded into MPEG-4 video in H.264/AAC format, and that will play on any iOS or Android device. Have a look at Miro Encoder (free) to convert these files.
