[Pro] Fonts

Hi all

I am using a a font that is not part of the top 7 browser friendly fonts

but I would like the text to be searchable so
which is the best way ( I know the best way would be to use one of the top 7) but aside from that.
which would be the best option

  1. put text in gif inside HTML box
  2. create a new Font set and only use HTML box
    Thanks for any advice

A gif is still a graphic and not searchable even if it is in an html box. So your second option is the better choice. However, you need to consider that not everyone may have the font you plan on using installed on the computer.

Have you looked at Paul’s Caxton Action? That lets you use Web Fonts (real PostScript/TrueType fonts that are embedded in your page through JavaScript). You can style the page however you like, using any of thousands of tasteful (or not-so-tasteful) fonts, many for free.

I remember seeing an action called Caxton that allowed font sets to be embedded so just about any font can be HTML. Never used it and don’t know if it is a current action. May be worth a look or if anyone else has any info on it!

Yes Walter I have used Caxton before. but I cannot seem to find the fontface CSS file for Gill Sans

So this means the text can be searchable?

I hope so
Thanks so much

You might see if you can find a lookalike font in the FontSquirrel site that matches Gill Sans.

Gandhi Sans isn’t far off, although not perfect.
