[Pro] free counter 2 visible

I have installed the counter2 on my most recent website, but am puzzled: I thought it was supposed to be invisible. There is html text visible at the bottom of my page. If it matched the color of the background, it would be invisible, but this just looks sloppy and geeky. And I haven’t yet tested whether it is counting my visits correctly.

Check to be sure you have the latest version of the Action. There was a problem that was fixed not too long ago that was causing this to happen in certain browsers. You’re right – it’s supposed to be stealthy. Also triple-check that your site ID is correct. You can see this id on the individual site’s index page on the FreeCounter site (in a little gray box on the top-right of the page).

That didn’t do it. It changed it, but it was still there. HOWEVER, when I de-selected “Include PHP Variable for page title” it did go away. So far so good. What exactly IS that option? What am I missing by not selecting it.

Aha. That’s only needed if you apply the Action to a template page used in a PHP content management system. Typically, you will have a variable that sets the title of the page, and since FreeCounter relies on the title of the page to differentiate hits on different pages, you need to set this option to match whatever you call the page title variable: $page_title or $title or whatever you use.

Isn’t it easier to use the servers stats?

It costs you nothing to set up and is easy to access - why not try it and see what info you can get from it.

It does not pretend to give you all the info some server stats do - but then again a lot of server stats are hard to interpret.

So my answer is - No it isn’t easier to use the server stats but there are limitations.
