[Pro] FreeCounter2

Is this plugin compatible with Pro 7? Is there any tutorial on implementing it to one’s website?

Thanks.

I am sure that Walter announced that the Freecounter service is nearing EOL

To be clear, you’re looking for some flavor of visitor tracking tool, correct?

If so you have a lot of options:

GoSquared
Piwik (often found in cPanel)
Statcounter
Google Analytics

and on it goes…

They all provide the usual basic stats, but some do a lot more. Depends on what you need.

I’ve been pleased with the results from StatCounter. I have it on all my pages, but in my StatCounter settings I’ve checked the box to make it invisible online. The chorus of voices seems to be increasing that hit counters are a bit tacky for professional pages. I just use it (invisibly) for my own analytics, along with Google Analytics.

I’m just doing a single page (point of presence only) for a local printer. I’m hosting on my MacAce site until this guy’s sure of what exactly he wants; then will go with conventional web hosting, FatCow or something like that, maybe even stay with MacAce. He was with GoDaddy but they’ve become quite exorbitant in their hosting charges…told me he’s paying $700/year!!! for a site his assistant did w/GD’s help, that’s pretty bad IMO…

I’m building a much simpler page for him at:

http://peterpica.com/gesualdiprinting

and he’d asked me if I could put in some kind of counter…wants to get an idea of the page’s value in terms of public hits, etc.

There is nothing about the Action that would or would not work on a Pro 7 page. It is completely unobtrusive and will not change your layout at all. That said, as Dave mentioned, I did write quite some time ago that I was considering sunsetting the service. There are lots of other options out there, with way more functionality than my very simple “no cookies, no JavaScript” tracker bug. There is a very real cost to providing this free service, and if I had to choose between this and ActionsForge, I know where my money would go. People do, very occasionally, hit the PayPal button and send me a few dollars, and that does reset my sunset a little bit, but it is coming.

But in the meantime - for a few bucks - Walter’s might hold off on pulling the plug on the Frecounter service long enough to do what you need.

Just tried out StatCounter… pretty slick & perfect for what my customer wants (I think!)…

Thanks all.
