I’ve been reading a few posts about Content Management Systems and I’m interested in finding out which CMS most Freeway Pro users prefer and why. Thanks in advance for your response and advice.
There are many that can be used with FW - your choice should really be governed by how much or little you need to do with it and how savvy your client is.
If you can give us a bit more info about your needs we can give more informed suggestions.
ie if you just want the client to be able to update a News box on a page then Pulse may do the job. If they want to add pages/navigation etc then maybe WebYep. But there are many options!
Most of my clients who ask for this feature are just looking to update a few pages and don’t seem to be interested in modifying the website structure or navigation system.
I have used WebYep on two different sites – one for a tenants organization and the other for a cafe/restaurant. They are both set up to allow the client to make changes to “portions” of pages and the client doesn’t need to know much if at all about web design to maintain things. The other nice thing about WebYep is there is a Freeway Action and great help available on this site (primarily from Max Fancourt who wrote the Action).
You can download WebYep and use it in sort of demo mode until you are ready to have it go live (create a test page to your domain and try it there or set up a MAMP server on your Mac.)
I have been shopping a variety of CMS systems lately and have dabbled with wordpress, drupal and joomla. But the main thing I learned from using those “template” CMS platforms, is how much I LOVE Freeway Pro!
I just designed a site for a client and very simply added an extremely user friendly CMS UI. Depending on the skill level of the client, the sky is almost the limit to changes they can make. As long as they have used a word processor in the last 20 years or so, they will have no problem making changes and won’t bring your productivity down with your new clients.
You should check out http://pagelime.com You can add up to 3 sites for FREE to try it out. Since discovering it, I white labeled it and now charge a monthly residual fee for access.
There is another very similar at http://simplecms.com but I found Pagelime to be less buggy. I would love to hear some feedback if you decide to try it.
Here is the first site I used it on http://totalblisssalon.com as you can see the owner likes to have little contests and add specials. I found it perfect for this kind of content. They can even add videos, pictures, flash, SEO. It seems to do everything!
I am in Livermore, but use MacHighway in Colorado, so it really doesn’t matter if it is local. They are pretty good, used them for years, but am thinking of trying others. I am thinking of BlueHost - I too would appreciate any feedback there.
This comes up every few weeks, so a search of freewaytalk should yeild some answers also.

probably should be FW and noob compliant.
I’m particularly keen on Pulse. Simple to implement; doesn’t require third party server; good image management; a gallery option; has a simple blog (that I employ as a news update method); easy for client to use.
In part it depends on the extent your allowing the client to change content and where and of course to what extent the client wishes to take control.
My most recent client using cms is adding ALL main content themselves, rather than just a bit here and there.
You might design a site that allows for only a short column to be updated but the client might then decide later to add a screed of work possibly destroying the layout and look. A level to tuition is required I think.
Certainly worth having a look through all cms you can and trying the demo’s to feel what your comfy with.
I think my biggest concern when choosing a CMS solution is the health and survivability of the company providing the service. I know that in many cases that is an unknown, but I can’t imagine anything worse than having to reprogram a lot of websites that were using a CMS system that is no longer available because the provider went out of business.
So having said that, what Freeway Pro compatible CMS provider seems the most stable and has the most Freeway Pro users?
But with code like that used by Pulse the site will continue to work ad infinitum - unless there is a massive rewrite to PHP.
There is no compulsion to update your Pulse version unless you wish to implement new features and there is nothing on your FW pages that relies on the pulsecms.com website even being there.
There are systems that are hosted externally to your site and I would always be wary of them but WebYep, Pulse etc. are self hosted.
All I get is the site blocked by my ISP Talk Talk here in the UK - a possible virus threat!!
GAAAA ! very scary.
but an odd thing too. that fellow builds backpacks, and like me, he sews for a living . it was just a site i used at random.
i must have put my question wrong.
so, i try again …
on any Google search. the search results show URL’s, and above the URL, there is a big blue header type of text. we’ve all seen this a zillion times.
" Where/What/Who is the source of Google’s big blue text ? and can it be manipulated ? "
sorry to be unclear.(and i wrote to dan about Bruce’s access blockage)

Google provides the header and description, based on their algorithmic analysis of your page code. If your page is well designed at both a visual and code level, this will be a natural result that you will like. If you have used a lot of images as a substitute for text, or have not paid attention to the structure of your site’s code (which can happen in Freeway, since it’s fairly abstracted away from what you see) then you will need to help Google with a carefully written meta description tag. Note that Google really doesn’t trust these very much, so you have to back that up with lots of normal HTML text about the subject that you purport to cover in your description. People have spent so much effort trying to game the system that Google fights back very vigorously…
