[Pro] Freeway Talk

Hello all, I am using Freeway Pro 5.4.3. I have a question i would like to ask. I am designing a website for my wife’s church. They wanted to know if i am able to add a Facebook and twitter icon so it can link to their website. Also if it is possible to make a page like this one where people can ask questions and others can answer back.

Like which one?

Certainly in 5.5 there are actions to do this but all these do is make it easier as you can still use the Insert>Markup Item method.

All you need is the necessary code from FB

The easiest way to do this would be Disqus, all you need is a free account and the Comments Action: Comments - ActionsForge

As to a forum (like FWT), I recommend you look into something like Simple Machine Forums. It’s free and fairly easy to set up. However, there is no good way that I know of to implement a full discussion forum in Freeway.

To answer your question concerning the facebook and twitter icons linking to the churches facebook and twitter, all you have to do is add them as an image, and link those images (Command-K) to the respective pages.

Take a look at Vanilla. They have a one-line JavaScript implementation that Julie has used before, maybe she’ll post a link to that. They host the forum for you, and all you do is add the line of script to your Freeway page in a Markup Item to embed it.

If you’ve been following the news lately, the amount of creepy stalking that both of these services do when you use their own “embed” elements (like buttons, tweet buttons) is quite shocking and should give you pause from using them. Adding your own graphic button – a normal bare link – to the services will do everything that the like / tweet buttons would for you without opening the door for them to stalk your visitors.

or you install and host it yourself like I did with our small german freeway board http://kimmich-dm.de/fwp-forum.html. The vanilla hosting is as I remember a paid (and not really cheap) solution while the open-source one is free.

Cheers
