[Pro] Getting Straight Lines

I’ve used the Path tool to try to get straight lines, but it doesn’t seem to be too accurate all the time. Not html lines, but decorative lines.

It doesn’t seem to snap to guides (yes, that was on), holding the shift key doesn’t seem to help, and once it’s made, it’s nearly impossible to move it without making it “off”, or slanted in some way.

Is there a better way of doing this, or am I just not using the tool properly?

What about just using the graphic tool and creating graphic “boxes” that are 1px wide with a fill color. You could then rotate to turn them vertical or sideways.

I thought of that, but I also needed dotted lines for this particular site.

Same principle could apply. 1px x 'n’px graphic, duplicated at fixed
intervals and the set grouped. You can then use different length
‘dashes’ and colours, ad nauseam.

Just a thought

I suppose I could do that, but I don’t know why the path tool is so unpredictable.

Although Freeway works a lot like a page layout application designing in HTML isn’t exactly the same, so usually when you see lines in web designs they tend to be an edge of a box/item that contains text (or is just a plain container for other items).

Instead of drawing lines as you are, use items to contain whatever it is you want to separate and set a custom border so that only one edge of the item (or however many you want to see) is visible.

An example of this can be seen on our site http://www.softpress.com/; the lines at the bottom of the page in the footer are just bottom border of the items that contain the awards info and the top border of the copyright information.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Yeah, I tried that, but whatever type of container I was using didn’t have the different choices of borders. Html box over CSS box maybe? Can they be dotted or dashed lines?

Anyway, for the layout I ad to work with, the lines I made with the path will do for now.
