[Pro] GoDaddy Compatibility

I’m considering purchasing Freeway Pro. I have domains on Go Daddy. Are there any compatibility issues I need to be aware of that may make Freeway Pro a poor choice to use to design, upload and maintain my web content on Go Daddy?

Please let me know.

Only with respect to PHP and specifically mail from PHP. If you are publishing a truly static HTML site, such as what Freeway makes all day long, then you won’t have any issues with that. But if you add the PHP Feedback Form Action to your page, you will have to do several laps to finally get it to work there. It can be done, but they make you work for it.

Thankfully, there are lots of other hosts out there, most of which are completely standard and don’t do any of the crazy things that GD have done to their servers. I recommend that if you want to stay with GD, park your domains there, use them to register other domains, but point your domains to another hosting provider who really cares about that end of the business. It’s good, practical advice to not keep all your eggs in one basket anyway. I personally take this a little bit far, but it’s saved my bacon twice so I don’t care if I pay a little more.

Hi Dan,
For the majority of static (plain HTML) sites GoDaddy is perfectly fine. Where you may have problems in the future is implementing any server-side scripts as I’ve found that goDaddy make users jump through some extra hoops to do some things that tend to just work on other hosts. Specifically getting feedback forms to work on GoDaddy can be a bit of a pain but does work eventually.
Regards,
Tim.

Not particularly FW Pro - more specifically any web design software that allows you to create php content such as feedback forms.

But that is GD for you. I use them for Domain name registration and management but their quirky server setup makes me host elsewhere. Less headaches!

But if you have a vanilla website you will be fine.
