Today I discovered something weird about the Google analytics code and the new action in 7.
My UA-… Code was transferred to the new added field in the action setting. It was placed under ‘use classic code’.
But: I found out I do no have a classic Google analytics code. Google automatically updated my tracking code to the new Universal Analytics.
So I upgraded my site from 6 to 7 and the code in 7 was transferred but was now used as a classic code.
Since my upgrade to 7 my site was not been found in my analytics. I discovered that today when I logged in my analytics account. There were no visits in the last few days.
I then went to my FW 7 doc and moved my UA code to the top field in the action where it says: ‘tracking ID’.
Just to be clear: it was (mis) placed automatically when I migrated from 6 to 7.
So, this is just a warning for everyone who uses Google Analytics. Please check this on your website!
And I think that Softpress has to look into this too!
Also, I can not find any information on the new action. What is exactly happening with: ‘domains to follow’ and the checkboxes thereunder?
As far as I know, the 6 version of the Google Analytics Action doesn’t support Universal Analytics, so it’s likely that your analytics stopped working when your account was upgraded to Universal rather than when you upgraded to 7.
The 7 Action should output the same code as the 6 Action if the Classic Tracking ID field is used.
Do you know when your Analytics account was upgraded to Universal?
Well Stewart, the upgrade to Universal would then be a very very coincidence. On probably exact the same date I migrated my site to 7?
Because I have 7 now for about two weeks and that is also the period I would have had no visits on my site according to Google analytics.
So I think the code in classic in Freeway is not working and it should be noted by Freeway users. It would maybe better that 7 automatically places an existing code in both fields?
Is there an action that calls the universal analytics (analytics.js) instead of the deprecated Google analytics (ga.js)? Our analytics were moved by Google in May 2014.
Well, I guess this boy just cried wolf. There is no problem with the action for me. We used to add the analytics code using HTML markup since version 3 or 4. It was residual code that I saw and not the action in version 7.
The FW7action was attached to the root folder for the project.
Yes, I did open a FW6 file in FW7 but there was no FW6 action attached anywhere because analytics were custom coded. The previous, i.e. FP6 (it was added probably in FP5 and maybe FP4), manual HTML markup was added into the “before ” field of a master page.
hi… i just spotted this…. I am wondering if this explains why my visits have dropped to nothing almost??? Did moving it to the code from classic to the top field sort things out??? My website is www.rusticfurnitureoutlet.ca
Another spot that caused a problem for us was that years ago, when Urchin accounts were auto transferred into Google Analytics, we wound up with two GA site profiles in our one Tracking ID account. We forgot about it, for years, until we were auto transferred into the universal analytics and webmaster tools showed we had zero indexed pages. After our panicked and anxiety we found the appropriate toggle to attach the other profile to webmaster tools and saw that nothing in reality had changed. Our indexed pages were still indexed. This had nothing to do with FP.
As far as what I did in FP, I found and removed all the old analytics code in the file and used the Google Analytics action on the site folder. The tracking works, but according to GA, the “tracking code does not include the necessary support for the Demographics and Interest reports”. It would need just two lines added to the code (Page-Analytics Chrome extension - Analytics Help). I think it would be a simple upgrade for the Google Analytics action. I wonder when it will be incorporated?
hi… i was not trusting that action anymore… made no sense why all the hits where from the states and i still had a mego drop… after a hours hunting, i have placed this little bit of code on my master: (where ‘UA-12345678-1’ is your own code)… and voila… back up to normal numbers and all my visits originating from Canada. I suggest you guys try this.
