[Pro] Google fonts - doing something wrong?

I’m having trouble using Google fonts in a site with Freeway.

In the head of my FW doc I’ve got:

<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Source+Sans+Pro:200,300,400,600,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>

Then I’ve created some styles, eg. ‘heading’, ‘bodycopy’ and ‘specs’ - these are given the font ‘Source Sans Pro’, a font size and colour etc, and given an extended tag of ‘font-weight:400’ or whatever (you can see in the head code that five weights have been chosen). Text is then styled accordingly in the normal FW method.

However, when published the google font is not used and it just falls back on the alt Verdana,Arial,sans-serif.

Am I missing something in the use of google fonts with FW?

Hi Hugh,

The only things I can think of without seeing the page in question is that either the browser you’re using doesn’t support web fonts, the font set has been set up incorrectly, or the browser or system is preventing the font form downloading for some reason.

If you can post a link then we’ll have a better idea of what’s happening.

Sorry I can’t show you a live page, Joe, just running and publishing locally at the moment - although I’m internet connected so the browser should be able to contact googleapi…?

I’m using Google Chrome - one would hope it supports google fonts :wink:

I could send you the freeway file…?

Did you also make a Font-set for this new font? I do not see this in your description.

Edit>Font Sets

No I didn’t make a font-set. I’ve never made a ‘font-set’ in my life! In FW3.5 I always just added a new font if it was needed - I never needed to get involved with font-sets, to the best of my knowledge.

If you don’t create a font set - which defines the font to use - then you can add the Google code to your page but it wont be utilised.

Read this page about using the Caxton action (essentially the same as using Google Fonts) it will give you the info you need. http://www.actionsworld.com/Actions/Caxton/index.php
