[Pro] h1, h2 and h3 tags

Hi, I’ve been criticised for not using any h1, h2 and h3 tags, please could somebody help with the following queries I have.

  1. What should I attach h1, h2 and h3 tags to and should i extend further to h4 and beyond?
  2. Do I tag the html item when highlighted or do I have to open this box, highlight the relevant text and then tag this within the text box in the styles menu?
  3. Is it worth tagging text in graphic format or will this be unreadable when uploaded?
  4. Any more helpful advice regarding this subject that I may be missing would be gratefully welcomed?
