I’m a bit confused as to why menus that come out right to left are called Vertical - and up and down are called Horizontal - but that’s not the question. lol
I’m wondering if it’s possible to reveal ALL submenus vertically at once.
My list setup is -
1
2
3
4
5
With each rollover the current reveals the next in this setup.
Is there a way for it to show all 5 choices upon rollover?
If I start taking away Indents - the menus start becoming up and down (horizontal?) even though I have it set up for vertical.
There is a working sample here -
Also - ARROWS. I set up arrows on the Main menu with an offset of 3px and use “Use Main Menu Settings” for the submenus. The submenus ignore the offset parameter. Why?
It’s not Free GoDaddy, I’m paying for it. Up until this project I’ve only been using it for that main domain name (karenengel.com - which is redirected to Zenfolio). I decided to try to use the space for a subdomain which may likely get it’s own in the future… All my other hosting has been on FatCow for years now.
If it looks horrendous can you be more specific? Are the images pixelated? Grungy text? If it’s just loading slow that may be caused by my putting a ton of MP3s on one page. I may need to add another layer in here so they don’t all load on the main page(s).
As far as the menus - it’s not that I don’t “get it” it’s that I don’t “want it”.
No drop down menu at all. Zero. Only sideways left to right. I could easily use a menu bar, but I’m just having fun and seeing what I can do.
Again - if I could reveal all 5 and then get rollovers working on only the individuals that would be the goal
Thank you David - that’s got it sorted! Also now I’m seeing where horizontal vs vertical comes into play by this example.
The subdomain I’m working in is exactly that, a work space but thanks for the heads up - I didn’t see the ads since I have Ad Blocker running on Safari. Yes, this must be the hosting that comes with the paid domain, so off I go to one of my FatCow sites - goodbye GoDaddy!
I looked long and far for something that worked as a player UI - but none were as clean as I wanted and just about all of them are based on Flash - which I really want to avoid. I don’t think I saw EP Player, so I’ll see what it can do. For personal use purposes, the layout I have right now is fine, but the page load time is potentially problematic for someone with a poor connection. Once it goes truly “live” I probably should find another method. :-/
After looking around again shorty after your observations about not loading so many players in one page -
The other issue I have with jukeboxes is that none I’ve found provide for any kind of level of detail about the titles - individualized track notes, composers, musicians, description, genre and selling points are a must for this project.
Short of this, since there about 75 titles in total, I’m going to likely need to break these down into 5 category pages as opposed to all on just one page with anchors.
One way I’ve dealt with these in the past is to use a separate pop-up
mini-window for each track, and a graphic with Spawn New Window
applied to pop it open. That way you can have as much info as you want
surrounding each track, and the initial page load is instantaneous
because none of the music files are in it.

Thanks Walter - I’ll look at that as well although what’s worse pop ups or Flash? I wonder if it would be able to use only one pop up universal for whatever title is selected? (as opposed to 75 different pop ups!) The latter is a bit of a nightmare.
I wonder if there is a way to load a graphic only that when hovered or clicked reveals and loads the player in line on the page without having to pre-load.
Sorry, I’ve seem to have hijacked my own thread. LOL
In Firefox, there’s a player added what is not too bad, In Safari it just works by clicking link (or an image) in fact what you want.
Could this be something?
BTW - using the ScriptyLightbox-Action + Link to file action should do the job as well (so no need to script), but I’m trying in the next step (when I got the time) something like a playlist.
Indeed - quite interesting! I noticed a couple of things - it was kind of slow to load and there was no actual use of the audio controls within the Lightbox. If that’s the case then maybe a simple Play button is also an alternative. I was hoping to have at least the controls of the QT player, however I do like the concept here - much more elegant than pop ups.
Would this have full cross platform/browser support or be dead in IE? No rush, still thinking about it. I’ll finish out the multiple player setup across several pages in the mean time. It’s easy to do. If I have to replace them with Flash player(s) - buttons or other - that’s simple too.
If you name all the popups the same in the Spawn New Window Action (i.e.: make one popup trigger and test it and then duplicate that item on your page and only change the page it points to) then you will only get one instance of the popup, reused for each requested file. Also, if you’re worried about popup blockers, don’t be. They only stop popups that you didn’t actively click to open.
Thanks Walter - I’m going to build something quick to test this - I just had this vision from 1999 of pop ups going crazy everywhere! LOL One reusable instance is perfectly fine - it also leaves the main page open for browsing while listening, which is a plus - as well as being able to put everything all on one page with anchors and maybe a smooth script to glide from section to section for a more modern feel.
OK, tested - this is going to work well I think - also for a Lightbox look and feel instead of a pop up, one needs to go no further than switching on the iPad option! Neat.
I was a little concerned about the Applescript - but it also uses and alternative target=“_blank” method for browsers that don’t support the script.
Hey, DeltaDave. Can you kindly post a download link to a Freeway file for this example? I want to use the left example and need some clue how to build it. The flyout setting is what I don’t get.
The build without using a Flash jukebox or similar required copy/paste/changing an individual page for each popup - but the custom descriptive text for each entry was a necessary item, so all worked out well. Since this is not a site where constant changes will happen (mostly fixed and static), the desired result was worth the extra work.
Thanks again to David and Walter for the instructive and helping hands!
That particular one uses a lot of Markup code and is not particularly FW friendly - definitely not WYSIWYG - but if you want the example you can get my email address in the People section.
I dont recommend it because it will take a fair bit of effort to maintain.
