Hi, I want to include a newsletter subscription in my website. The host has the necessary specs (MySQL, mailing lists, etc.)
Is there an action for this, or what do I have to do? And how will the users e-mail address be transferred to the mailing list?
I never did this newsletter thing before, so I have absolutely no idea, what to do and where!
You can add the MailChimp code to your web site that will create a signup form on your FW site. Email addresses are stored in your subscriber list in your MailChimp account. People that sign up from your FW page - their info is automatically added to your member list - you can also import your own email addresses from a spreadsheet file or manually.
I also went with MailChimp. It’s not quite as simple as MailChimp would have you believe, but once you get the thing rolling, it’s pretty effective. I really like how they protect you by including the unsubscribe links in newsletters, automatically alerting you when someone new has subscribed, and a whole, whole bunch more.
I don’t think so, but there’s a lot of material there to wade through about individually created templates. And don’t overlook the videos. Tons of those as well.
With Max’s help (and also having made a search through this forum as the topic has been discussed with others) I built a newsletter for a client in freeway. They handled it themselves once built but you can send it out via Mailchimp or indeed one of the other mailing services available.
Making HTML-Mails with FW is not the problem I have, but integrating the subscribe-form and all the newsletter related topics like automatically sending the nl to the addresses in the mailinglist, handle all the addresses, mySQL etc. etc.
This all is very new to me.
But anyway, thanks for your comment.
automatically sending the nl to the addresses in the mailinglist,

This is exactly why MailChip and similar services exist. It is a
fiddle and a hassle, not to mention a technical and legal liability,
to try and handle all those things yourself. It involves a number of
things that lie well outside of Freeway’s scope, so you really will
avoid a whole mess o’ pain and time if you pick a ready-to-use
service. MailChip is quite well respected.
Design header graphics that help make a MailChip template feel like
it belongs with your site. Sticking with a gently modified template
will make your life easier; email client rendering differences can
make regular browser testing seem like a walk in the park!
