Simple question I think, but I go for months without using Freeway and forget how to use it. I have a radio button on my Master Page that I want to link to another page, but I can’t figure out how to do it. Also, if the button is mapped out on the Master Page, it’s supposed to work on other pages, right? Hope I’ve provided enough info to get the right answer!
A radio button is a form element so all the pages on which appears would have to have a Form setup in order for it to work correctly.
Can you show us how you are using it just now - I appreciate part of your question is about linking to another page from it but are you wishing to use the submission of a form as part of that process?
If not then there may be a more appropriate way of achieving what you want.
Thanks, David –
Actually, this problem began when I started tinkering with a perfectly functioning website that I built two or three years ago for my son’s restaurant. www.blueskytexas.com
He wanted the pdf menu deleted in favor of a page that listed the menu without prices. I took the page that previously was linked on Our Menu button and typed the menu into an existing text box on the Menu page and then removed the pdf call-up. I deleted the pdf reference on the Our Menu button.
I’ve tried linking the new Our Menu on the Master page Our Menu button without success. Incidentally, somewhere along the line the reference to the Menu on the Master page I amended some way from item1a to item1aOurMenu. I’ve tried renaming it back to 1a to see if that would help, but haven’t gotten that done either.
Obviously, I haven’t uploaded the site yet because of this problem and the need to correct a couple of other links.
What else do I need to tell you? Thanks so much for your interest.
David –
I just discovered in looking again at the existing site that Our Menu will only work from the Home page and can’t be navigated to from Merchandise, About Us, or Contact Us. So, the site is not a “perfectly functioning” site as I told you initially!
Everything’s better after a good night’s sleep. I got Our Menu working. Thought I had linked to it from Merchandise and About Us, but found whatever I did earlier did not take, so I re-linked Our Menu to them and it works ok. Now, a couple more revisions and I should be ready to upload.
Thanks for your interest in helping me! If you’re ever in Texas, look me up and I’ll treat you to a real Texas burger!
Hmmmm. Brings up a point. I went to Merchandise and About Us and found the Our Menu button had no link showing on the button on those pages, so I just went to the place at the bottom of the screen where it said No Link and made one. All seems to work from those pages now. Think I did that right?
Sugarland, huh. That’s only about as far from Amarillo as it is from Inverness to Portsmouth. But, lots of people from way down there in Texas come thru here on the way to Colorado.
But I do appreciate that is one BIG State you have there.
But what you say about your site brings me back to my point about Master pages where content that is going to be common to many pages (like Navigation) should live so that there is only one place you need to update it.
Can’t publish the site now. Get error msg: Cannot complete upload because a file or folder could not be accessed. [550 Failed to change directory.] Is this on FW or NetworkSolutions where the site resides?
Also, may be contributing factor – pop-up screen with Publish Problems like OVERFLOWED TEXT with 3 items and also PARAMETER HAS NO VALUE. The parameter files have to do with the Graphic Link to PDF that I deleted to prevent the pdf from loading when the Menu button or text was clicked. How can I get rid of these msgs?
Called NetworkSolutions, but they’ve never heard of FW and gave me an FTP file uploading utility to use, but I don’t know which file(s) to upload.
Cannot complete upload because a file or folder could not be accessed. [550 Failed to change directory
This could be a fault with either.
In the FTP upload settings what do you have set for upload: Passive?
Overflowed text is usually caused by 2 non-layered items overlapping on your FW page. If you have View>Outlines turned on then you should see this as a Blue bordered box with an X across it.
The missing parameters on your Graphic Link to PDF action will be sorted by deleting the action. Once you have found it and selected it on the FW page you can click on the X in the top left of the action window to remove it.
I’ll get on the remedies you suggest about Overflowed Text and Missing Parameters.
With regard to uploading, I’ve tried all 3 methods several times. I’ll try them again and if I still can’t do the upload I’ll call NetworkSolutions again.
You may have to go into the server either using an FTP application or using the File Manager in your hosting account and delete what is there already to avoid this issue.
It is worth double checking the settings in your File Upload dialogue box - especially the ones for Server: and Directory:
My file upload box shows the Server as 02c28df.netsolhost.com
The Port box has always been blank which the NS guy said is ok, but he had me enter 21 to try to fix the problem.
The Directory is /htdocs.
My user name was ok with Network Solutions support guy earlier.
I entered the web address: http://www.blueskytexas.com/
Currently, the FTP mode is set to Non-Passive.
Can I safely delete all the files I saw in the NS File Mgr?
I’ve been working on text boxes on the home page to get rid of overflow problems; but, that hasn’t gone very fast – interruptions!
Try this first. I also have someone with NetSols whose Directory is /htdocs/site/
Can I safely delete all the files I saw in the NS File Mgr?
Why not
An alternative is to change those overlapping boxes to layered items - select them and in the Page Inspector (HTML Item, First Tab) tick the Layer checkbox - it will be faster.
Gotta take a hiatus on this project for a week or 10 days while I’m out of town. Will report back to you when I’ve worked on it some more, but didn’t want you to think I’d dropped off the face of the earth without another thank you.
