[Pro] HTML Emails

I’m hoping someone can help.
I’m trying to create an HTML email and have followed the advice I have found on this forum and on the softpress resource.

I have created a page and uploaded it.
It is HTML 3.2 with css disabled.
It is very simple layout
It has the remote resources action implemented

I’m emailing it via apple mail. It plays really well in apple mail, but fails when viewed in google mail and yahoo and webmail.
By failing I mean that it simply doesnt display until you click the show image option in google mail for example and even then the area with the text is just a white box (meant to be black.

Am I doing something fundametally wrong, or is there another route I can take to create an html email?

Thanks

Here’s my take on html email, though I’m just learning the ropes on
this myself.

according to email-standards.org google mail is one of the least
html email friendly email clients. You can see the results of
their “acid test email” in all email clients here: http://www.email-
standards.org/clients/

I’ve also been fine tuning my html email skills. I’m making html
emails to be sent to a huge list using acymailing component in joomla
(which does almost everything Constant contact does but through my
own site at a fraction of the price). It’s an imperfect science to
be sure.

I had a terrible time until I learned that Box Model is the only way
to go for most consistent display across all the various email clients.

Dan Jasker’s box model screencast was very helpful - well worth the
$5.00. http://www.danjasker.com/fwtuts/view/inline-box-model-fwtuts/

I just found this useful chart at Campaign Monitor that shows what
each email client can handle in html email. http://

They also have a downloadable pdf of the chart and downloadable
starter templates
