[Pro] Hype

Has anyone taken a look at the new Hype HTML 5 animation program? It claims to allow insertion of animation into existing web pages.

Don’t be daft!

Not everyone subscribes to all sections so non OT subscribers would miss mention of Hype there.

Well I tried using Hype to insert a simple slide presentation into a page created in Freeway and found that it was dead-simple to accomplish. Here’s my test page - Just click on the photos to change the display:

I’ve only spent an hour or so using Hype so I’m not an expert at all but it wasn’t hard for me to figure out. You only need to insert three lines of HTML markup into the page to get it to work but you will need to manually upload the a few files to your site for it to work.

It appears to work in Safari, Firefox and Chrome on a Mac.

Seems like it could be useful.

Different browsers support different parts of html5 and CSS 3 and none support it all. Therefore some of the animation effects won’t work in all browsers. Even so this software is worth investigating.

I’ve posted some beta Actions for Hype on my web site. They help with the general file management more than anything else.

To be on the safe side I just tested the animations on the Hype site gallery with an older PC in the office using windows professional 2000 and IE (what ever version its got maybe 7) and apart from the transparency on some items everyone worked more or less OK ~ the user would not miss some of the finer animations…

Minor update to the Actions posted this morning. Bit of CasE SensiTIvity needed knocking back.

Also noticed that you can’t set encoding to match your Freeway document in Hype. Minor problem, but if, like me, you type “ and ” instead of “” you may hit oddness.

In all, though, for a 1.0 application, it’s looking good.

An update to the Actions - call Target Chains from Hype animations. You know you want to.

It’s sending communications the other way - using Target Actions to trigger Hype events. That’s the head scratcher.

Have started playing with this but have failed to upload to freeway site. Have tried also Paul’s actions but still no luck. Baffled. Can anyone give further guidance on what files/code goes where and how?

I had the same problem. I’m now just creating folder on the same level as the html document in my site folder on the server with the name the specified when saving the Hype file such as “name_Resources”, then pasting the “copy-paste” text into a “Markup Item” locate appropriately.

OK thanks - I have got there. I was not placing the “name-Resources” in the correct folder.

Paul,

In your tutorial you say “Create an HTML page inside that folder and sketch an instance of the Hype Support Action on the page. Use the Action to select one of the JavaScript files in the Hype generated HTML folder”

What does “sketch” mean? Is that a simple HTML paste of that 3 line code that HYPE provides?

sketch an instance of the Hype Support Action on the page.

By that he simply means Insert>Action item or select the action and draw an instance of it on the page.

I can not get this to work to save my life. I have exported the HTML5 animation. I have placed the HYPE HTML5 document on a page in Freeway added the action and it doesn’t work. BTW I am new to all this so please bear with me.

Can anyone help me? Does anyone have detailed step-by-step instructions to make this work?

I have placed the HYPE HTML5 document on a page in Freeway added the action and it doesn’t…

You create a sub folder in the FW document with the same name as the Hype generated resources folder. Then within that subfolder you create a new FW page - you don’t import or try to place the Hype generated HTML page.

Then on the FW page you add the actions.

OK - here is some clarification

inspector

This is probably where you are going wrong.

The animation page has the Hype Object action drawn on it (the same size as defined in the Hype document)

The folder you created in FW with the same name as the Hype output Resources folder contains a FW created page that has the Hype Support action drawn on it.

To explain: the hype-support page with its action is purely there to ensure that all the Hype generated Resources are uploaded to a folder on your server with the correct name (and because of that paths to all the files) as the scripts expect.

The animation page - where your Hype created animation will appear - will reference all these Resource files correctly because the Hype Object action tells it where to find them.
