[Pro] hyperlinks not finding PDFs for loading

I’m just learning Freeway. I’m building a simple one-page site for a friend which has just a home page with a mailto link for email (it’s working) and four “Link to PDF” hyperlinks so that viewers can click and download my friend’s portfolios of her work and her resume.

The home page has a full screen graphic saved as a gif which is imported into a 960 x 700 px Freeway page. Then I built html text and hyperlinks on that.

I’ve tried testing this on my friend’s ftp site, and the html text is showing up, the mailto link works, the hyperlinks to the pdfs are visible but when clicked on the corresponding pdf document cannot be found. I did upload the index.html doc, pdf docs to link to, and Background gif file to her ftp site. But the above mentioned problems are happening.

Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks very much,

Chick

Hi Chick

Can you post a link to the site using the full address like this (without the angle brackets either end)

http://www.yoursite.com

And in File>Document setup can you make sure that Output>HTML Code is set to More Readable (2nd dropdown)

If we can see the underlying code we may well be able to diagnose your problem.

And BTW did you use the Link to PDF action or create them manually? And did you use FW to upload everything or FTP the files. If the latter then check that the path to the PDFs is correct as to where you have put them on the server.

David,

I may have solved the problem I think. Here’s the ftp address:

http://ftp.saralarsondesign.com

I think I screwed up putting the right files in the right order onto
Sara’s ftp upload.
I forgot to put the Resources file in and the browser couldn’t find
the pdfs in the
Resources file. Even though I had uploaded the pdfs “outside” with the
other
files on the ftp site. The browser was looking for the “Resources”
folder when
searching for the pdfs. When I saw that in the URL, I deleted all the
files on
her ftp site and reloaded them including the Resources folder.

Did I do the right thing?

Regards,
Chick

Hi David,

Yes I used FW actions to create the link to PDF (load in new window),
but I used Fetch to upload the
files to Sara’s ftp site to test the site and links. http://ftp.saralarsondesign.com

Chick

Yes - that way you are never 100% sure everything has gone to the right places.

Just put Sara’s ftp settings into the FW doc and let FW do the upload for you.

O.K. I’ll read up on that in the FW reference manual. I haven’t
gotten to that section yet, since I’m so new to the software.
I know I have an awful lot to learn.

Thanks,

Chick
