[Pro] IE - SSP and iFrame

Hi Folks,

I’m having an issue with IE7 (also possibly 6/8) that hopefully someone can help with.

I have several SSP galleries on a site (http://www.grahamburnsphotography.co.uk/imagesofwinterby.html) and they render fine on all browsers except IE (surprise, surprise) where it slips down and to the right of the screen. The SSP galleries are within an iFrame and I suspect that is the or perhaps one of the problems. Any thoughts on how I can prevent this migration. Its a very simple site with elements placed on a page, no box model or the like.
Already tried a few variations ie. table without success.

Its iFrame 2.2

regards,

s

First off, why the iFrames? You could just have individual pages for each gallery.

How are you making the SlideShowPro instances? Flash, Lightroom, or Standalone?

Hi Dan,

iFrames are a fine and easy way of incorporating multiple SSP galleries. However, while they work with every browser IE has an issue with them, having done further research, its a well known issue and there doesn’t appear to be any fix, sadly.

So I’ll rehash the method of using SSP, probably having each gallery page in its own folder.

I export out of Lightroom and then once uploaded link to the index file from the iFrame.

oh well, live and learn.
thanks,

s

ps/ I’m going to have a fresh look at other gallery methods that are not flash based.

Well SlideShowPro can be used easily on a page-by-page basis versus using iFrames. With the new way that SSP is integrated into webpages, this integration is made a lot easier.

Here are the instructions in the SSP wiki about it. If you need help translating them into FW let me know.

Hi Dan,

Thanks, that looks an interesting way forward, if a bit of a cuddle but easy enough.
I think in the future when there are several galleries I’ll incorporate Director.
SimpleViewer Pro is looking rather good these days and I’m debating if its easier jumping to that.

Appreciate your time on this.

Hi,

Sorry to come back to this, I’m only just getting back to sorting it out. Its an unpaid fix.

I tried the wiki suggestion but that just wasn’t playing ball.
The best option I found was to do the seperate folder route. Also following Dan’s screencast.

The problem I’m finding is demonstrated here: Images of Winter by Graham Burns
The background should appear without any colour variation and the thumb/navigation on the gallery is very sticky and full screen not working. It works properly as exported from lightroom, loading the index file generated by LR.
Any thoughts ??
Dan, the file structure exported from the latest LR is now different than that in your screencast, its only a slideshowpro.swf and it was that I dragged into the loader area div.

Try selecting your Flash item and go to Item > Extended and then click New (under the first tab, should be embed) and add a name of ‘WMODE’ and a value of ‘transparent’ (both without quotes). That should fix your background issues.

I know the process has changed for the LR version and have hid those ScreenCasts on my site till I have time to redo them.

Hi Dan,

Many thanks - brilliant.

That’s sorted the background issue but I’m still having a sticky thumbs/navigation issue, full screen not working either. I might try another outputted gallery to see if the same thing happens. I suspect it will.

best,

Just the same. Images of Cats by Graham Burns

Resolves a bit if refreshed but full screen still doesn’t work.

Try adding in the same way as the WMODE instructions:

Name: allowfullscreen

Value: true

Hi Dan,

Well that’s sorted the full screen ok (ta) though it doesn’t have the full solid colour background when in that state - it actually looks quite good even if not how it should be. There still is the glitch (button navigation and notice one of the thumbs is in half) when first loaded, doesn’t always correct when refreshed though ok after going to full screen and back. Can’t expect visitors to do that of course.

I was going to reverse engineer, removing other elements on the page to see if there was anything conflicting with the SSP - grasping at straws.

Would there be a solution in taking the lightroom/ssp generated index.html (which works) and inserting into the freeeway generated file ?

Many thanks for your help on this. Director would I guess be the solution in future when there are as many galleries as this but overkill when perhaps only two galleries, so still need to find a solution.

I’m using LR 2.4 and the latest SSP, with FW5.5.

This is what I see:

The regular version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3640378/seoras_1.jpg

The full-screen:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3640378/seoras_2.jpg

I don’t see any half-thumbnails. This is also after first-view, I haven’t refreshed the view.

Also, Director is great for one gallery or multiple galleries or just single albums. It greatly eases the process in this type of situation.

Hi Dan,

Perhaps its just a local situation, I did try with various browsers.
This is what I see: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12460858/Screen%20shot%202011-01-08%20at%2009.26.40.jpg
Buttons don’t work except for the ‘play’ triangle.

I’ll certainly figure in director for future sites, just I have this one and another client wanting to go from his one gallery to two, maybe I’ll just need to absorb the cost somehow:(
Anyway the thing is to get this working ok.

thanks again for your time.

I should have mentioned that I viewed that in Google Chrome.

What browser are you using to see that?

The easiest solution would be to shrink the size of the thumbnails a bit and see if it fits in there. I’ve never seen anything like that as SSP does a great job of placing thumbnails easily in a grid and I have been using SSP since version 1 went beta.

Since that thumbnail process is automated, try that and see if it works.

Hi Dan,

Tried as you suggested and also removed all other elements on the page. Still the same on all browsers (FF, Chrome, even omniweb) that I have, cache emptied etc.
I had a look on my pc and that seems fine (FF and Chrome) so along with your observation I can only assume something weird on my setup is happening but what counts is that it works elsewhere. Though it is strange that the gallery on its own using generated index file works perfectly. All very odd and annoying.

I’ll get it all working and see if anyone else experiences an issue, as long as my client is happy on this.
I’ve been using ssp for some time also without any problems iframe’s aside. Integration into FW it would seem still requires some tweaking.

Many thanks again for your help and time, also your expertise on other freewaytalk threads.

onwards and upwards,
seoras
