I am totally new to Freeway and indeed to web design (although I’m a long term graphic designer). I have tried to produce a site and get so far before all my images appear missing even though I keep pointing the site to the media required. Am about to give up completely and try Dreamweaver instead. Any answers? Also it says I don’t have permission to save.

How are you adding your images to your FW doc?
The best way is to copy the originals to the Media folder that FW creates for you when you start a new project from a Template. You can make your own media folder too and use it to store all the items that you will use in your FW site such as pics, movies, PDFs etc.
Then import them into FW from that Media folder - you can drag and drop from the finder but I prefer not to work this way.
As to your permissions problem - you dont say what version of FW or OS you are using - Lion? Do you have the latest FW?
