[Pro] interesting Transition Action problem

Hi,

Thanks in advance for any help.

  1. I have a graphic text that has an “i” in it that is missing the dot and I applied the FADE IN transition effect to it.

  2. I have a 2nd graphic image which is a smile face which is the dot in the i and I have this little graphic on top of the text graphic. (this is where my problem may be)

The effect I put on this little face graphic was Transition SLIDE DOWN.

The fade in works fine but the small face graphic does not slide down over the other graphic, it just appears. When I duplicated the face and moved it OFF the text graphic to test it it did slide down which tells me my problem…

Something is causing the transition of the small graphic which is on top of the big one not to work as I need.

Any suggestions.

THANKS,

Barry

Dave- do you mean “Combine with CHildren” I see “combine with children” in the inspector when I click each image and they are checked. I tried unchecking those but no change.

Is there another place for 'COmbine graphics?"

Thanks,

Barry

You get Combine Graphics if they are not layered.

Can you post a link to your page

Hey Dave,

I have CSS blue button on so they are layered.

I can;t send link yet because site is just being built.

the fact that they are layered is causing 1 not to use the transition effect right?

Is this what you are trying to do

similar.

just trying to get a little graphic to transition down and land above the other image which fades in.

Except the little image falls within the box of the larger image.
and thus my problem.

Is that similar to what you did?

when I remove the fade transition action from the main graphic word, the other one has no trouble coming down; it is only when they both are set to go.

Dave that is amazing- however I think I know where we are different- mine is not just text but a full graphic b/c I built it in photoshop.

Is this the difference- yours is text you typed in, mine is 2 graphics?

Thanks for the time.

copied you exactly. I even tried this…

I typed the text in as a graphic. Left out a letter. put the small face in its place and applied the 2 transitions.

What I got again was the word fading, but the face just APPEARING; not coming down- not matter what effect I apply to the face when combined with the word, it just appears.

Tried another browser same thing.

i thought maybe it was the RPL or the overlap tolerance (which I had set to 0).

Even when I changed it to 100. same result.

frustrating…

Ok- for a newbie I figured it out but maybe not good news.

I SHUT off the Relative Page Layout that everyone says you should use and that fixed the problem.

Now what? SInce this is my main logo and will appear as a master on all pages what do I do about RPL???

You can use the Remove From RPL action on specific items

I SHUT off the Relative Page Layout that everyone says you should use and that fixed the problem.

The RPL action was devised by SP to make it easier for the layman to essentially create inline layouts without understanding their complexities. As you have seen there are circumstances where problems arise - hence the Remove from RPL action.

The idea of RPL is that FW autogenerates the layout to avoid the dreaded overlapping text box scenario often seen when a visitor increase the text size on the page. It also happens as different Browsers/OS can render text at different sizes.

In your particular layout with a graphic header the RPL part isn’t really required until the text boxes further down the page - graphics dont suffer from the problem in that text boxes expand over graphics rather than graphic boxes expanding over text.

Of course the situation is different if you are not using a layered construction at all as then 1 text box will push another out of the way.
