[Pro] Just do not get it... Firefox=no scroll

Hi all,
Been a while…

This is an old question that I must fix.

I have the SPAWN New window action used in a few places beauase I like the way the window opens ON TOP of my main site. all great.

It seems that if you hit a link that has this action happen and make the page open up on top in FIREFOX, there are NO vertical scroll bars to see the entire screen which is on top. I read about this somewhere too as a FIREFOX problem.

  1. If you would like to see exactly what I am talking about
click my site in FIREFOX browser…
    http://hoffkids.com

  2. then click the FORUM icon

  3. then click the RED button to go to forum

Since I have to fix this, can someone recommend what you would do in my case to have the screen open up on top but still vertical scroll in Firefox.

if it is just impossible, what is my 2nd best option-just open as new tab?

Thanks,

miss you all,

Barry

Hi Barry,
There is a setting in the SNW Action for scrollbars which, looking at your page code, is switched off. Turn this on and the scroll bars should appear again in Firefox. I suspect browsers like Safari are ignoring the setting as they see this as a usability issue when the content exceeds the visible window area.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Tim,

I turned on SCROLL BARS in SNW settings for my FORUM example, and still no scroll bars in FIREFOX only as expected.

Any chance you can confirm or tell me what you think or what else I can do.

click the red CLICK HERE button in FIREFOX…

Hi Barry,
Log a bug with Paul who wrote the Action (Contact). I’ve just tried a hand coded link and it shows the scrollbars as expected using the window.open method.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Tim… I asked him a while back but recall he did not have much to add about it but I will write to him again and see.

Can you please send me any link that you believe will open up as a Window on top with scroll bars in firebox. I have yet to see this appear on my end. Thanks
Barry

Tim,

worked great!!
Does that mean that Paul has to put that into his action?

When you checked it my site it did not scroll vertical in Firefox right?

I hope he can do it…

Do you have any connections with him to help him to visit this?

Thanks,

Barry

Hi barry,
I had a quick look around the innards of the code that the Spawn New Window Action creates and couldn’t instantly see this issue otherwise I would have mentioned the fix.

Unfortunately I don’t have the time at the moment to look at this any deeper but essentially there is something in the Action code that is causing Firefox not to show the window contents with scrollbars. If the page you were opening in the window was yours (on your own site) then I could have suggested another solution using CSS to force the scrollbar to show. Sadly the window content is on another server.

When you checked it my site it did not scroll vertical in Firefox right?
Correct.

I hope he can do it…

Sure I know Paul and I’m more than happy to help if he isn’t available to do so. Drop me a line using the link below if you need me.
Regards,
Tim.

I hope Paul knows what to do…
At this point, do you reccommend I email him and explain that it needs fixing or do you have a better way? (maybe you know him…)

I do remember that conversation, and I did post a fix to the Action in late may May or early June that fixed the problem. Did you not download and install that? I have been testing the Action in Freeway today, and I get scrollbars in Firefox.

Remember that double-clicking an Action will not always cause Freeway to see the new changes - check Edit>Actions to see if the Actions are stored on your HD or in your document. You should be on version 4.3.3 of the Action. Always quite Freeway and use Finder to install Actions, especially those which you are updating.

Try this test page in Firefox - does it have scrollbars? It was made with version 4,.3.3 of the SNW Action.
