[Pro] making changes to site with webyep

Hi,

I’ve installed webyep on a site and my client has uploaded some pictures, if I make some changes to the site, basic structure etc then will it overwrite his webyep uploads.

I’m not changing any of the webyep boxes just other sections of the site.

Thanks in advance

Peter

As far as I can tell as long as you just upload the new Freeway bits
and don’t alter/replace the WebYep system folder on the server (or any
of the existing bits on the site, but it’s okay to add new items) all
should be well.

The content you add via WebYep stays on the web server in a separate folder from your pages. As long as you don’t delete or rename the WebYep objects in your Freeway pages the content will still appear as before after you upload your revised pages.

Peter, as long as you don’t change the Fieldnames in any of the existing WebYep items you’ll have no problems. You can even reposition items on the page, if necessary, and change sizes of an item within which the relevant WebYep Action is placed.

In the event that you ‘lost’ an item by accident, as long as you can replace it on the same page with the correct Fieldname it will re-link to the WebYep Data folder on the server.

As a safeguard, I also use a script, simply created in Automator on the Mac, which downloads a backup file of the WebYep Data folder at regular intervals (weekly in my case). So even if there is a server outage, the client’s data is safeguarded.
