[Pro] Mal's "Continue Shopping" button

Hi. I’m trying to set up an e-commerce site using Mal’s, and I’m having the following problem: The site is structured in such a way that each item is loaded into an iFrame when the thumbnail or other link is selected. The “Continue Shopping” button wants to return to just the iFrame, not the containing .php page. The shopping cart appears in a _blank page. Is there a way to make the “Continue Shopping” button just close the shopping cart window?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks, David

Hi David,
If you remove the return address from the Action the Mals cart should drop the continue shopping button. You can then prompt the user to close the window manually or add a button into your cart header (Mals Admin > Cart Setup > Header Font and Alignment > Header message) to close the window when clicked.
For example;

Tim,

The only place I find a “return address” field is on the Mal’s site where I would set up the post-sale return-to-site button. Clearing that did not seem to have any effect on the “continue shopping” button. I don’t see in either the “E-Buy Button,” E-Buy Form," or “E-Shop Settings” panel a place to specify a return address. I can add a separate “close window” button, but I still need to get rid of the “Continue Shopping” button that’s part of the cart. What am I not seeing?

Thanks, David

Hi David,
Sadly the stock Freeway Shop Actions require the return address to be present for the Actions to function. These are created from a combination of the web address entered in the Document Setup dialog and the page name. I’ve looked at creating a simple Action to work around this issue for you and to remove the return address but unfortunately the tags I need don’t appear to available to any other Actions.

I can think of three possible suggestions:

  1. Use the Source Code Snooper Action applied to each buy button or link to remove the return addresses;
    http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=015
  2. Consider using my more customisable Mals Actions (on which the Freeway Shop ones were based) which allow you to eliminate the return addresses;
    http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=016
  3. Enter each of the buy buttons as markup (based on the code the Freeway Shop Actions create) with the return addresses removed.

None of these are ideal solutions as far as I can see. Depending on how comfortable you feel about working with a small amount of code I would suggest option 3 being my suggested route for you at the moment.
Regards,
Tim.

Tim,

Thanks again for the suggestions. I think what I’ll do is add the “Not in frameset redirect” action to the item pages, pointing the browser toward the page with the iframe. I tested that, and it seems to work well, or at least it will when I get the site out of a testing folder and into the root folder.
