[Pro] Mals Shipping Calculations

Hi there,

I have produced a site that is ready to go live, using Mals and Tim’s actions. I need to be able to set the shop to calculate shipping from a number of arrays:

Packages up to 1.5Kg = £5.00
Packages over 1.5Kg up to 4Kg = £10.00
Packages over 4Kg up to 30Kg = £12.50

Any help would seriously be appreciated.

Jon,

Pretty certain these can be set ok within Mals - cart setup - shipping. If I recall it does take a bit of figuring out but can be done. More complex configurations require the payed for Mals pro. I’ve found Mal is excellent at responding to direct email if a problem arises or their own forum.
Sorry I can’t be of more precise help.

Its a while since I did this. You can always make some dummy product(s) to
the values that test the shipping charge bands - and then you can set
parameters in the cart set up and test them out. I remember finding it
confusing.
If you cant get exactly what you want then you look for the best compromise.
I seem to recall the values were added - something like this:
(but I could be totally wrong so forgive me if so)
band 1 = 1.5
band 2 = 2.5
band 3 = 26

sorry not to be a lot of help - but in case this much is worth anything - I
sent it

regards
Brian

Cheers guys,

I think it’ll come down to trial and error. Just as well I have a full head of hair as I have a feeling I shall be losing some of it at some point.

It does seem that way at first ! after some trial and errors ! I set up a clients site using option 7, in the admin shipping section of Mals site.

This way you assign a value to each item action palette in FW

ie if the smallest item to be sold weighs .5kg for example assign it a value of 1 ( adding an extra unit for each .5kg ) ie 1.5Kg = 3 units, a product weighing 30Kg package would have a value of 60 in the FW action

tick option 7 and then in the 1st units column lower down the page in Mals shipping admin options put up to 3 and in the cost column put 5.00

in the second row in the units box put up to 8 and in the cost box put 10.00

third row put up to 60 and cost put 12.50

…then press the update shipping button or it will not save your choices !

Mal’s cart will then add up the values and add the correct shipping at checkout.

you can add extra zones for outside the uk and they can be different, the customer then chooses their location when they checkout.

I also believe that if you sign up for the paid version you get more options ( 5 more I think ) which means you can fine tune the charges even more.

that should work… but try it first. you can always tweak it afterwards

hope that helps and I hope my memory is correct !

Gary that sounds awesome… thanks ever so much. I’ll give it a try this evening and see how far I get with it all. Certainly makes alot of sense from what you are saying.

Thanks again

Hi Gary… It worked! Well almost. The only difference was, rather than put 10.00 in the second row and 12.50 in the third… I needed to put 5.00 in the second and 2.50 in the 3rd as the shop adds the first row to the next and so on.

I can’t thank you enough… it all makes sense and apart from a few things that need ironing out, I am pretty much sorted!!

Thanks again

Oops… missed that one ! I said my memory might be a bit hazy !

was nearly on the right track anyway… glad it helped.
