[Pro] Map Area with Rollover Action

Greetings,

Have the trial and struggling to do something. I have seen the question asked but not answered.

How do I apply the rollover action to a map area? I am able to apply it, but it doesn’t work. I am trying to have different images appear as areas of an image are rolled over.

I tried to do it by applying the rollover action to a graphic, but if the graphic is behind the image, it doesn’t detect the rollover, and if it is in front of the image that part of the image doesn’t show up.

Thanks

You will need to either use the Inspector palette to unlayer all the
images or group them together. Only then will the Rollover settings
show all the elements.

Then you will also need to set the smaller graphic not to combine
(again, with the Inspector palette) so that it slices a discrete part
from the main image when it is published. Rollovers work by swapping
out one whole graphic for another, so you must slice the image into
bits (or rather, let Freeway manage that) or else you can only have
the whole thing change.

You probably want to try using the Target Image Action as well as the rollover.

A simple way to achieve what you want with two images (you can, of course, have more)

1 - Draw 2 image boxes on the page and import a graphic into both

2 - Make sure bioth images overlap each other

3 - Select them both and group

4 - With the GROUP item selected (use the site pane to check this), apply the TArget Image Action

5 - Open the Actions Palette (Window>Action)

6 - In the Action Palette, determine what images you want to show for Normal, Image 1 and Image 2 - using ticks in the columns.

7 - Click on the Parameters Tab to see what Target Group is being used - it is likely to be Indogo - the default.

8 - Using the Map Area tool, draw two maps over the images. Give each image map an external link (use # if you want no link to be available)

9 - Select each image map in turn and apply the Rollover Action

10 - For each image map, use the Parameters tab in the Inspector Palette to select the Target Group Indigo and the Image Number (see step 6) to use.

When working with Image Pams and the Rollover Action, you have to assign it a link, or the Action will not see it. The # link is commonly used in this kind of scenario.

I’m not clear on everything that should be check and unchecked.

The hotspot graphic images should have Combined Graphics unchecked and Layer what?

The images I want to appear should have Layer unchecked and Combined Graphic what?

And what how should Show be set?

Welcome to FW Pro

Keith’s answer may be the one you want, but I notice you originally
mentioned “map area”. if you want to have an image appear elsewhere on
the page to expand information on an area that is rolled over, use the
Map Area Path Tool to draw out the areas you want as a trigger and
add the Rollover Action to each one.

The images you want to appear should have the Target Show/Hide Layer
action applied. Match the Mouseover number in the Rollover Action
Parameters to the Target number in the Target.Show/Hide Layer for each
one.

You should get something like this: http://www.greenmech.co.uk/dealers/index.php

I’m getting confused with the different answers.

Here is how I have it set up.

I have a bunch of Map Areas in different places with Rollover actions applied. I have the MouseOver# set 1,2,3 etc.

I have a bunch of Graphic Items with images imported that I want to appear. I have the corresponding Image columns checked 1, 2, 3, etc.

When I preview and mouse over the Map Areas nothing happens.

Why not? If I do the exct same thing with Graphic Items instead of Map Areas, it works.

I have my web page all layed out and the items linked so they show and hide using all Graphic Items.

When I changed the Graphic Items to Map Areas, it stops working. Nothing happens?

I don;t understand why it lets my apply the Rollover action to the Map Area if it doesn’t do anything.

What do I need to change from how I have it to make it work?

Okay. It is working. It turns all all that I had to change was set Map Areas’ external links to #

Phew! That’s all I needed to know! lol

Also, the page doesn’t work right in Freeways Preview, but it works right in browsers.

So the problem i stwo things wrong with Freeway.

1 - When you assign Rollover to a Map Area it should just work without putting that darn #!

2 - The Preview is bugged.

Ideally, the Rollover Action should apply one for you, rather than you having to do it. The # is needed so the browser has a link to work with.

I strongly agree! If I hadn’t found this thread I wouldn’t have been able to make Map Areas work and there’s no clue in the documentation.
