[Pro] Massive problems

Hi,

I’ve created a site here:
http://www.eosinteriors.co.uk

For months, it’s been running fine, but it started to get slow and odd things happening. They also didn’t like how it loaded so I’ve used mootools to stop everything loading until the background comes in.

Basically, they’re saying at their end it’s all gone to hell and the thing takes about ten minutes to load, there a re strange black boxes around graphics (on Windows 7), all kinds of issues. Problem is, I can’t see any of them at my end - all Mac browsers and Explorer running on XP through VMware render the site fine.

Can anyone take a look and see, I really need help?

Thanks.

Okay, I’m on a Mac running Safari, so it’s probably not what you need.

However, the site loaded quickly - probably because I block Flash ;o) - and seemed to work as expected when navigating around it.

I would hazard a suggestion the problem may well be local to your client. Are they able to view the site on different machines? Does it exhibit the same problems on different machines at their locations? Or is it just the one machine?

If it turns out to the latter, then I suspect someone has inadvertently activated some of the disability user aids, or some “feature” in the browser like those extensions you can get for Firefox that let you pick a page apart and see how it was built.

Not sure if any of that helps.

Heather

Yeah that’s the conclusion I’m coming to. I’ve tested it at three different locations on about five different computers and I can’t replicate the problems they’ve got.

Thanks for the help.

Can you get them to actually show you the problems? It might help diagnose what’s happening.

Joe, that’s the next step - I’m going in to see it. It’s all very odd.

Thanks Frank. So the first page load is still a bit slow. Any ideas how to sort that out? Or was that because you had flash disabled?

I’m guessing it was probably a combo of first load in the area, and the Browser (Google Chrome) wasn’t fully started. The second time, after I dumped the cache the page loaded very quickly. Check just now - 7 seconds flash disabled, browser data dumped - flash enabled about 5 seconds.

Best of luck with your clients!

Fantastic. I’ve just added a couple of bits (gzip and deflate) to the htaccess file too and they seem to have helped as well.

Cheers David. The drawing’s deliberately delayed so that timing sounds pretty good to me. I think the issue was with their internet supplier. Which would be why I couldn’t replicate any of the problems. Still, good to get some feedback and tests on the site. Cheers all!
