[Pro] mobile redirect does not work

I have a website that I would like to make a mobile version for in Freeway Pro. The full version of the site is completely made with Freeway Pro version 6. I tried the mobile direct action in 2 different ways.

  1. I made a mobile sized page within the initial website and referenced that mobile sized page with the mobile redirect action menu.

  2. I built a seperate website altogether with a completely different url. I referenced this URL via the mobile redirect menu.

Neither of these worked. To test it out, I saved my site and uploaded it to my server. I then browsed to the site via my cell phone and all i get is my initial site that’s primarily for desktop viewing.

Pleas help.

Thanks,
Emanuel.

And a link to the page with the redirect would be useful too.

I just spoke to a friend of mines and it appears it IS working, just not on
my cell phone. He went to my website and the web version appeared on his
phone. If you don’t mind, please go to www.hiphopquotables.com on your cell
phone.
If everything works right you should see a header and an all red
background, very minimal. Let me know if that’s what you get and what type
of cell phone your using.

Thanks for your help.

My cell phone is a Nokia Lumia 920, a windows phone and it totally ignores
the ‘mobile redirect action’. Instead it shows the full website, strange. I
even went into the settings of the phone and instructed it to show the
mobile versions of all websites.

Maybe it’s the phone that is causing what I thought was an error on Freeway
Pro.

More than likely not, it’s probably the Action that isn’t recognizing your phone. As far as I know, the only phones it catches are the iPhone and Android browsers. You may want to try my BreakPoint Action instead, as that uses a more generic test for a small screen. http://actionsforge.com/actions/view/277-breakpoint

Yeah, it’s Freeway Pro not having the proper redirect code for these new
Windows Phones such as the Nokia Lumia brand. My friend as a Galaxy 3 and
it redirects fine on his phone.

Do you have instructions on how to apply the breakpoint action?

I would like to create 3 versions of my website, cellphone, tablet, and desktop.

Will breakpoint work in this capacity?

Thanks.

Yes, but you need to find out what the various widths are of the devices you want to target. You get their native pixel widths, and enter them in descending order. So if you wanted to target an iPad in landscape orientation, you would enter 1024 as that breakpoint, and choose a page to redirect to. Then the iPad in vertical orientation would be 768, so you would add another breakpoint at that width, and redirect to that page. And so on, always maintaining descending order of values. The script simply goes through the defined layouts, and finds the first one that fits (<= the screen width). The Action allows for 5 different breakpoints per page.

Obviously you don’t want to make a separate layout for every device on earth, so you need to make a determination of the widths you want to support, and then only make breakpoints for each of those.

Thank you Mr.Davis for your instructions but I still don’t know where to
apply the BreakPoint action. Do I apply it the same was as the native
mobile redirect action? Select a page without selecting anything else and
then go to page/ actions and apply the BreakPoint action??? Is there an
official instruction document available for this action?

Also, do you know of a website that list different dimensions of mobile
devices such as cell phones and tablets?

Thanks again for your help.

Ok, I see it now. I apply it in the same manner as Freeway’s mobile
redirect action. One more concern- How do you add more breakpoints to a
page. I’m currently adding a breakpoint to my index page but I would like
to add 1 more breakpoints for a total of 2, one for tablets and the other
for cell phone. I tried clicking the plus sign at the bottom left of the
menu but I wasn’t able to select breakpoint because it was grayed out.

Thanks again,
Emanuel

Hey Mr.Davis, I feel silly now, you really made this action self
explanatory. Oh well, my apologies and thanks for tolerating my questions
and thanks for the action.

best,
Emanuel.
