[Pro] Moving on need some critical advice please

Lots to do yet … sort out the slide show and build the gallery pages but am slowly getting there … it’s looking a little ‘bland’ - the client quite likes the clean feel and the jewellery looks better on white (it was yellow bg) - I’m thinking maybe a full screen abstract image … diamonds or something which I have no problems producing but wondered best way to implement it so that it stretches etc … this has been covered but with so many iterations I’m struggling to find the right course for me to take using 6.1 - please please any other comments most welcome … Roger

Remind us please Roger - are you working towards a responsive site.

If so then maybe you should use BackDraft now that it is free.

Hi Dave … does your suggestion relate to ‘responsiveness’ ? - I am using FW 6 … it appears that ‘Backdraft’ is for ‘7’ - I cannot really justify the albeit small cost of upgrading to 7 … my website building is more a favour for friends I make little other than costs … nest time a job comes in I’ll build in a little for the upgrade.

Looking at the site on my iPad it looks OK and not too bad on my iPhone …

Thanks for the suggestion.

Damn, just noticed it doesn’t scale very well in a browser window though - I must look at that … and now I can’t get rid of the underline on the link to the ‘rings’ gallery …

Actually Dave … I don’t seem to be able to use B/draft with 6 and can’t find an earlier version …

I think you will need BD1.5

Bug$£@ it I’m going to upgrade to Fway 7 … hang the cost, just fewer beers this weekend … and maybe next.

Thanks, as ever, for your help Dave.

I get the impression that, even with Fway 7’s new features for ‘responsive sites’, implementation is easier if one uses Backdraft … would you concur ?

Roger, although I haven’t explored FW7 yet - I only downloaded it a couple of weeks ago and things suddenly went hectic with illustration work - I would thoroughly recommend Backdraft at least as a starting point.

I’m not exactly code-a-phobic, but I’m not very good at it and BD got me up and running with responsive. In about 15 minutes I had a page ready that would ‘just work’! No real styling or whatever, but everything relaid itself as expected etc. which was a first for me.

I’m not a full time web developer, so I only dip into the web when needed and for me BD is a great time saver. I’m sure you’ll find it helpful, and if you’re more code savvy than me, then you have every chance to pick things apart and get your hands dirty.

Good Luck
Trev

Thanks Trev … code savvy and me don’t mix I’m afraid … I build about one website a year generally for a mate for little or no money … I have enough trouble keeping up with developments in other software I use on a regular basis to have any time to learn to code … little inclination is another factor … also I’m quite stupid !

I’ll go ahead with BD … thanks for your advice - Rog

Roger,

Here’s the download link for 1.5: http://getbackdraft.com/downloads/Backdraft-1.5.zip. Unfortunately, the documentation has all be updated for 2.0, but I might go ahead and resurrect it for users like you.
