[Pro] MP3's and downloading

Hi. I’ve got a few mp3’s on a page using the Yahoo media player which is nice and simple. Is there any way I can stop visitors downloading the tracks or will I need a more complex player to do this?

Ideally, I’d like to let people listen to the tracks and buy a download if they wish (thats another forum query when I get around to it)

Any suggestions much appreciated

Hi James,
The Yahoo Media Player doesn’t offer any options to hide or obfuscate the audio files making it very easy for users to get hold of the tracks if they want to. I’ve seen other media players (namely ones based on Flash) that use XML text files to hold the path of the audio files which would prevent most casual users from locating the sound files.
Ultimately you may be better off creating a lower quality, and shorter audio ‘preview’ and place this online rather than the full track.
Regards,
Tim.

It really brings it all down to:

If you don’t want it stolen - don’t put it up there!

Same reason you only 30s preview on iTunes
