[Pro] Need for new Freeway Guide

Does anyone know if Responsive Design in FW7 will be added to a new Using Freeway Guide, with tutorials?

I read the responsive extension to the Freeway Reference manual, but got lost on ‘menu items actions.’ It was not clear how to set up the action.

Thanks,

Ben

I agree with your suggestion.

I’m having a nightmare of a time trying to work out Freeway without a guide! There doesn’t seem to be manual anywhere, what manual are you using?
The CSS Auto-generate Navigation Menu feature isn’t clear, I can’t even find the action for that. And I’m totally lost too.

I’d really like a hard copy manual as well as the option to see it online.

You can download a 250-page reference guide from Softpress » Support » We love to help with an extended reference for Freeway 7. The latter includes information on the new Responsive CSS Menu Action (from page 7 onwards). Both manuals can be printed out as required or you could use an online printing company who could also bind the manuals for you as well.

All the best

Thanks so much for pointing me there, things are going to suddenly just get much easier to do, I think!

I have been trying out Freeway 7 for almost a month and my feeling is that the documentation is not conducive to learning quickly. Part of the problem is that Freeway was started decades ago and some of the documents are still dealing with earlier versions of Freeway. When I was learning Freeway 5, I kept getting lost and bewildered and found I had slipped into instructions for either Freeway Express or or an older version of Freeway.

Also there are now three documents: Quick Start Guide; Freeway Reference Guide and the Freeway 7 add-on, which has not really been added on. This made it confusing for me because the tutrorial in the Freeway 7 guide just ends and the guide goes on talking about the CSS auto generate navigation menu, with no explanation that I will have to go page 222 in the Reference Manual to find out what the Ents are referring to.

I know that Ents write the manuals and were young saplings back in the Pleistocene when Freeway was born. But…really. The guides need to re-written with a fresh start. Freeway Express should be buried and never mentioned in writing.

There are wonderful people on Freeway Talk who understand Freeway and have helped me. And Freeway 7 will be very cool when
it has the ability for users to go back with a history button. But Freeway has to be made easier to understand if
non technical/non coding designers are going to buy it. It simply takes too long to learn.

For now I am going to wait a couple of months before buying Freeway 7. Freeway 6 can do most of what I want, even tho Responsive design is where it all is at. I will be patient. Maybe I too have Ent genes?

Hi Ben,

I agree with you. I upgraded to Freeway 7 and I wish I hadn’t now, and I’m in the middle of transferring most of my websites out of Freeway to create using other methods which have better instructions and faster to get up and running. The number of hours I’ve wasted swearing at the computer trying to work out what the instructions meant!

The videos are better but often they assume knowledge which a new user wouldn’t have, and they don’t link or mention where to find the information.

The Freeway Talk people are absolutely amazing but I feel very reliant on their kindness and time.

I couldn’t with all fairness recommend Freeway to anyone I know, it’s just now too difficult to work out how to use.

I would be willing be a tester for a new guide and give feedback. I’ve always felt if I get instructions right, then most other people could too

Here’s hoping the Freeway Gods are listening…

Best

Heather
