[Pro] Page Update Won't Upload

Have been maintaining a site for a client. One page needs to be updated. I update it in FreewayPro, preview it in a browser, all is perfect, save it (publish it, whatever that does), then try to upload it. Freeway connects with the host provider, & appears to be uploading the updated page, but when I check on the web, the old page is still there. This is making me upset, the client too.

Please help.

Thank you

Post a link to your page online and tell us what you expect to see. What was changed?

This may be a Browser or Server cache issue. Try using a different browser to access the page - one that you have not used before/recently.

Thanks David.

Here’s the link to the page

http://gwm2.com/clients.html

The HTML box at the top needs to be updated ages ago, it’s dated last year (August 2011). I delete the whole box in Freeway, make a new one with new text, publish it, then upload it to the server.

Viola!

Same old, same old.
Never updated.
Tried emptying browser caches, different browsers. It never changes… so sad.

PS - in this forum is there a way to quickly find my posts & their answers? It took me ages to find this from just a couple days ago.

thank you

Firstly it may be an HTML box but you have graphic text in there. Change it to HTML text and upload again.

As to finding your posts - visit the People page at http://freewaytalk.net/people/list

Find your own name and click on it. This will take you to your account page where you will see (near the bottom) the groups you are subscribed to and how many posts for each you have made. Clicking the view link will show you a list of all your posts in a particular group.

Thanks for all your help Dave.

It must be something to do with the hosting company…
Because now I’ve deleted the box completely & all text that was in it, resaved the site (& published it - nobody’s told me what the difference is), then re-uploaded it, & the entire box & old message is still there.

Is it the host?
Or could it still be a problem at my end?

thanks again…

Did you try changing the text to HTML text - the version online that I can see still has graphic text on it.

This could be a server cacheing issue but hard to tell.

There are a couple of things I would do.

Update your FW to version 5.4.3 which is a free update and deals with some bugs - not necessarily to do with your problem but you should have the most recent version.

Create a new site folder. Do this by using the finder and make a new folder next to the existing site folder - call it newsite (or something you will recognise easily).

Then in FW use File>Document Setup. In the dialogue box that opens look under the Document Tab for the Site Folder selector. It is the Select button above the pasteboard width setting.

Use this to choose the new site folder that you created in the previous step.

Publish your site and then do a fresh Upload.

Tanya,

When you ‘Publish’ Freeway re-writes the page code. THEN you would save. The other way around you will save the unchanged code and then implement the new.

Thanks again everyone for helping me. I updated my Freeway to 5.4.3 as you suggested. That didn’t change the page. Yes I’ve deleted graphics, it’s HTML only, but it still won’t upload. I’ve deleted the whole box even. Still nothing.

So then I tried the new site folder idea, which was a little daunting, but your instructions were perfect. Thanks

That took much longer to upload, all from scratch I guess. But then, still the same old page, still there. No changes, it refuses to update. Do I throw away my old site folder?

What’s next? It has to be the hosting company, right? What else could it be? Somehow I have to get the client to contact the hosting company’s tech support? This is getting awkward…

Do you have FTP access to the site?

If so then use an FTP client to download the clients page at www.gwm2.com/clients.html to your Desktop.

Once you have it there then open that page with a text editor and see if it contains the updated information.

If it doesn’t then I suggest that you go back into the server with your FTP app and delete, at the very least, the clients page and re-upload with FW.

If the downloaded page does include the updated info then it sounds very much like a server caching issue that you want to speak to the hosting company about.

Certainly the page I see at www.gwm2.com/clients.html doesn’t have any HTML text on it and you did say you changed it to HTML text?
