[Pro] PHP Feedback form not sending

Hi, I have set up a simple feedback form using the PHP feedback form action. While this has always worked well in the past, I cannot get the mail to send. I keep getting the error page which I’ve set up and get no email.

I also have Webyep elements set up on the page, could this be causing a problem?

If anyone could shed some light, that would be great.

Hi Matt,
Try setting the cation to use a page for each error type so that when
an error occurs you know exactly what the issue is. I also notice that
the form elements are all on thier own layers which, in this instance,
shouldn’t make a difference but it is generally advisable to keep all
of the form items on the same layer, or better yet, not on a layer at
all.
I can’t see anything that relates to WebYep in the page source and I’d
be surprised if that were the issue anyway.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Tim, thanks for the reply. I’ve done as you suggested and the issue seems to be with an invalid email address.

I’ve now tried 3 different email addresses in the recipient area on the action setup, and I’m still getting the error that the address is invalid each time.

Could it be something to do with the hosting account maybe?

Hi Matt,
The action validates the sender’s email address (the one they fill in
online) if the text field is called ‘email’ (without the quotes). The
recipient email address isn’t checked as the action assumes this is
working OK. Use the contact form on FreewayActions.com (http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=con
) to send me a note with the user’s email address in it (the one that
is failing) and I’ll check to see if the validation code is working as
it should. Once in a while I see email addresses in a format that the
code just doesn’t understand.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi again Tim, have done as suggested and sent you the three email addresses that I’ve tried to use individually, sent from the form at your link that you sent me. I’ve tried each one in recipient field of the action dialog box and they all seem to return the page for “invalid email address”

I’m using my own email address in the field for “email” As i’ve been filling out the form in full each time I’ve tried to test it.

I am now having problems with this action on a new site, after having used it successfully in the past on other sites. (Current host is Fatcow, with PHP 5.2)

I’ve set up everything correctly - this action makes it very easy to configure! - but when the form is submitted, I keep getting a PHP error; specifically “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in my/path/here/contact-go.php on line 114”.

In this case, line 114 reads $headers .= "Content-type: text/plain; charset=“ISO-8859-1"n” - but this doesn’t seem like it could be causing the error.

I’m not sure what else to look for - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try downloading and installing the latest version of the action from http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=019
Unfortunately a stupid ‘fat finger’ error managed to sneak into an
earlier version of the action that meant that the PHP wouldn’t parse
correctly.
The latest version of the action should correct the issue you are
facing. If you still have problems after upgrading please feel free to
get back in touch;

Tim,

Thanks for the help - I did, in fact, have the older version of the action. The latest one worked like a charm - thanks again for all of your support.

I had this running on a site last year, and have recently updated that site, and now the form isn’t working - always giving me the error page.

I updted to the latest version (2.3.2), but still no success. When I try setting it up from scratch on a completely new page, nothing happens at all when the submit button is clicked.

Bit of a panic here because it was only supposed to be a quick update.

Jonathan

Hi Dave,

Link here:
http://www.pha-creative.co.uk/emailcampaigns/henley/formtest/

This one doesn’t work, but I have gone back to an old version of the action 1.9.2, which works to a point, but there is some oddness happening on the email that gets sent out. It returns the correct message, and the correct email address, but it says submit: submit for the submit button.

Hi Jonathan

Looking at that example shows me that the form elements are not contained within the Form tags - so no info to send.

How did you apply the action to this - to the page, to the table?

Remove the action from everywhere and reapply as a page action Page>Page Actions>PHP Feedback and try again.

If you can also set your HTML code to More Readable it will help

It returns the correct message, and the correct email address, but it says submit: submit for the submit button.

If you have named your button then it will send the value associated with that name

No name then no value sent. I had thought that the action was supposed to ignore the Submit name.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for looking in such detail and for doing it so quickly. Everything is going wrong here today!

I applied the action in both ways (page and item). I couldn’t get either to work. On the example you looked at, I thought I had drawn the html box, applied the action to it, and then sent to back, so it should all be contained.

Anyway, now applied as a page action, with the other settings above as you describe. For the latest version (2.3.2), it still insists on taking me to the error page.

However, for the 1.9.2 version, it now works perfectly well, and now I haven’t named the Submit button, that is OK now as well.

So, for the current panic, I need to continue using the old version, and there is something clearly amiss with the new version in my particular set-up.

The link I gave earlier has all the changes you mention applied to it, but with the 2.3.2 version, if you want to take another look.

Thanks again,

Jonathan

At least is now submitting.

Now change the action settings to: Use a page for each error - and create 3 different error pages for the three states; Not in domain, Server and invalid Email and try again to see which error you are getting.

I think it would also be worthwhile removing the prefilled details in case they are affecting things.

Yes the more I look at this I think the problem may well be that you have set the email field with a value of ‘email’ and I wont be surprised if the error you get is Invalid Email because the hard-wired value of ‘email’ will not pass the format check of name (@) domain.com even after the user has added a valid email address.

hmmm, well the error page given is from the the server failure page. I have removed any values. Still getting the error page.

Hi Jonathan,
What version of PHP is your server running?
The rewrite of version 2 of the action has a minimum requirement of
PHP version 4.1.0
You can find my brief news post about it here;
http://www.freewayactions.com/news/index.php?post=1239262326

It looks like the PHP the action generates is returning an error from
the server when asked to send the mail. Who’s your host and do they
require anything special (that you know of) to send out through their
mail servers?

When version 3 of this action comes along (when oh, when!) it’ll
contain (amongst other things) a verbose error mode so you’ll be able
to see exactly, in plain English, what the server is doing to your
form data.
Regards,
Tim.
