[Pro] Please direct me best way (1st time video)

Hi,

I am now adding video to my site for the first time and I read so many options and techniques.

If somone could please tell me what way they think is best that would help a lot.

To start:
I have about 10 .wmv videos I need to show on my site. They are currently all about 12mB to 49mb.

Of course I want it to play on everyone’s computer (mac and PC).

Not sure how I feel about direct play(i.e. .mov) vs uploading and playing from vimeo or youtube. I do not know enough to know the difference since I am just begnning.

I read that maybe I should consider converting to .mov and use SLB2 may work.

THanks for helping with unchartered territory. It can be hard at first.

The big advantage with hosting your videos on a service like YouTube or Vimeo is they will be served up in a format that works no matter what platform or browser is used.

There are built in Actions for linking and embedding YouTube and Vimeo content in a Freeway layout, which makes it so much simpler.

My advice would be to try it first to see whether it does what you want. If it doesn’t, then look at alternatives.

Hope that helps.

Heather

YouTube is pretty open about the files it will accept. If it thinks there’s a problem, the site tells you.

The only limitation is a cap of about 10 minutes in length, though even that appears to be changing now. If you have videos longer than the maximum, the accepted rule is to split them into smaller 10 minute segments. Of course, that means you would need to embed several feeds on your page.

I hope that helps. I’m by no means an expert in these matters. I’ve only got a few YouTube videos I link to, and so far only one Vimeo film!

Cheers

Heather

It’s unlimited if your account is in good standing - that is you have no copyright infringing material uploaded.

Ah, thanks Paul.

Most of what I upload is hard pressed to get beyond five minutes!

Cheers
