Last night was not a good one for trying new tricks with the trial version of 5.5 Pro for me. Today I’m still not able to figure this out and the new 5.5 PDF Reference is confusing me. Using the Pro version.
First I am going to explain what I need to have happen on the webpages…
I want to have a webpage with two separate columns of lists. One list being “cures” the other being “ailments”. There will be far more ailments than cures whereas the separate ailments are going to match up to several cures. Each of the cures and ailments is actually a link.
Whenever someone clicks onto a cure link, a new smaller browser window should pop open with an image, description in text and at least one link leading to another webpage. This could also happen vice versa where if someone clicks onto an ailment link, the smaller popup window pops open with cures, an image, description and link/s.
I have been trying for several hours now to make this happen trying to follow the instructions with the reference. Now I am thinking that I won’t figure this out on my own and need help. So now I will try to explain what I am trying to do and what is/is not happening…
I have made a series of smaller webpages for all the popup windows that I need. They are 500 x 500 pixels. Placing the window 200 left and 200 top. No toolbar or scroll bar and Close to No.
I want each link to work on its own so that there could be several different popup windows open at once.
This is where I am finding the first part of difficulty:
In the Reference on page 347 you can find these instructions: “however, if you want each link to open its own window, make sure that the WINDOW NAME for each is different.”
How does one do this!?!? I can not find a way to have more than one WINDOW NAME. How do I add more? When I click onto the + to add another action, it will not allow me to add the same action a second time. I have spent a couple hours on this part and it is very frustrating to say the least!
Getting this step figured out I think will make a huge difference!
Now please let’s look at the very last paragraph on page 347. This paragraph is a killer for me! I have a question for each sentence!
“If the popup window is to used for navigation”
Navigation? So I tried to find in the Glossary what is might mean by navigation. No luck!
The popup windows will be used to direct the viewer to information and a link. Is that what is meant by “navigation”?
“If used for navigation, you need to make sure that the links are targeted back to the main window.”
I do not understand and the sentence makes it sound like what I’m trying to do can not happen! The links will open up many webpages throughout the website. Please explain this.
Finally the last sentence: “In the popup window page set the TARGET field for any links to “opener”.
Huh? I am unable to figure this one out at all. Again could you please explain this better to me?
I have been using Freeway 5 Pro for 20 months now. Sometimes I swear there needs to be an American English version of instructions.
Could you please help me with this?
