[Pro] (Pro) Problem with Uploading

I have created my first website with Freeway Pro (5.6.4) and have had it up and running since November 2011. I love Freeway!!

Recently I made some minor additions to a couple of the pages and tried to upload. I use Cyberduck (4.1.3) following the instructions on Softpress KnowledgeBase
‘Freeway uploads the entire site each time a page is edited’ @

During the Synchronize of the Watched Folder, Cyberduck would give me:

“I/O Error: Cannot read file attributes.
FTP Response 421 received. Server Closed Connection”

and I would click ‘Try Again’. It would take several ‘Try Again’ clicks and several hours to upload. My upload speed was 2.90 Mbps.

When Cyberduck said Synchronization was Complete, I went to check my site and several of my images are missing - most of which are on pages that I had not made any changes to. I am certain these images have not been moved or changed in any way that would cause the timestamp to be different. Each time I try another Synchronization it gets worse and more images and some graphic text boxes disappear.

I am using:
Mac OSX 10.7.4
FreewayPro 5.6.4 with: Pagelock by Kimmich and ImageGardian
Cyberduck 4.1.3
INeedWebHosting

Since the last upload which worked perfectly (on May 20) the only changes that I can think of are:
the additional information added to two pages in Freeway(saved and Uploaded>FileCopy>WatchedFile)
and I upgraded my internet service from what the provider calls ‘High Speed 20’ to ‘Broadband 50’

Is the change to my internet service the culprit?
Should I try uploading the whole site directly from Freeway?

Looking forward to your advice!

Hi Amy

How big is your site site folder you’re trying to upload? Knowing sizes that would give a measure if the site upload is indeed slow as you mention.

So now I will demonstrate how new I am to all of this! I’m not sure how to find the size of my site folder.

If I look on my control panel at INeedWebHosting there is this information:
WebSpace:604 MB and Bandwidth 206MB

If I look in the Finder where I saved my Freeway file the .fwbackup is 375.9MB

Does that answer the question?

604MB in site files? Wow yes that’s a large site. I can see a total new upload from Freeway could take quite a while and be prone to upload problems now and again if only due to the time involved. I’m assuming lots of files rather that large fewer files?

As for a solution, apart from smaller site, a possibility would be to segment the site into smaller manageable sections (if your site is using folders).

I would try and use Freeway to upload wherever possible but I can see a site this size being a slow process to upload the first time round and even doing site updates because of all the file checking Freeway has to do.

The size of the .freeway or fwbackup files are totally irrelevant.

The important one is the size of your Site Folder - which more than likely is beside (in the same folder) as your .freeway file.

Ctrl + Click the site folder to Get Info and to show the size.

Thank you, DeltaDave for helping me with the basics!
My Site Folder is 170.3MB

With regards to your suggestion, David Owen, " segment the site into smaller manageable sections (if your site is using folders)."
I am not sure there is much I can do there because the majority of the site is Password protected for which I am using Pagelock by Kimmich which requires all the pages to be located within a Pagelock folder. The Password protected area no longer worked when I tried to use subfolders.

Any other suggestions? I really need to get the website back to the way it was before the small update which seem to cause the loss of many of the images that had already been up and running smoothly prior to the revisions.

My Site Folder is 170.3MB

Which is not that big if you have a couple of videos in there.

I would certainly let FW do an upload for you and see how you get on.

Thank you to both Davids for your prompt assistance!

I did a upload using FW instead of Cyberduck and it all loaded perfectly in 28 minutes.

I thought using Cyberducks Synchronize would have made things quicker but I must have been doing something wrong since I spent many hours over 6 days and was getting nowhere.

I will upload from Freeway from now on!

Thanks again for your help.
