[Pro] Problems uploading FTP with Freeway Pro 6

I cannot upload anymore my website using the FTP of Freeway Pro 6. I have inmotion hosting and the guys told me that it is not caused by their server. I used Cyberduck and it functions. Any idea why Freeway FTP upload doesn’t function anymore? I use Mac X Mavericks. Thank you

What setting are you using? File>Upload

If using FTP Mode - Passive then try FTP Mode - Non Passive and vice versa.

There is also the FTP Mode - Automatic but I find Passive to be the most successful but different servers prefer different settings.

So to summarise:

Auto I think is the Default, if no success try Passive and if still no success Non Passive

I already tried all the possibilities: passive, active and non passive non active. It doeasn’t work.

What error do you get?

There is an option to Save Log

If you get the Log file and send it to support(a)softpress.com they can check it out’

And double/triple check that you have the correct log in details in there - even if it means clearing them out and retyping them.

Just for a basis of comparison, I too use Freeway Pro 6.1.2’s FTP upload function. And, like loannis, I use Mac OS X Mavericks.

It uploads fine every time.

Thanks Jim - I think that is most Maverick’s user experience.

loannis, I have found Freeway tech support to be very helpful. They helped me through a difficult, several-months-long upgrade and rewrite of my website when upgrading from Fwy 3.5/4 to Fwy 6. Give them a try if this forum hasn’t been able to resolve your issue.

I just tried to upload one of my sites to MacHighway and receive an error message “Cannot complete upload because of an operation time out. [421 Sorry, cleartext sessions are not accepted on this server.]” This is the first imd I have seen this error message when trying to upload with Freeway.

I have submitted a support ticket to MacHighway, but not I figure that it may not be their issue.

This is actually a great error message to see. FTP is inherently insecure – the password and login are sent as plain text over the wire, and anyone with access to your local network, or your ISP’s network (or if you’re on a shared server, your server) can read that password plain as day. I’ve been using SFTP (secure FTP – basically FTP tunneled through SSH) and hosts that prefer it for nearly ten years now, and have never looked back. If I encounter a hosting provider that doesn’t offer SFTP, I move on. So it’s really quite nice and helpful of MacHighway to nudge you along to the path of truth.

Switch to SFTP in Freeway and your issue should go away.
