Apologies I posted this yesterday but neglected to put in a sufficient subject title:
I am experiencing problems uploading changes to my site in Freeway Pro. I have changed a few pages, but it seems intent on uploading the entire site again, rather than simply comparing files and uploading those that have changed (I’m pretty sure this is what it used to do). Because my site is quite large now, it keeps on timing out about half way through, saying the FTP server has stopped responding. I have only noticed this since I updated to the latest freeway 5.4.3.
Where are you hosting? Freeway 5.4.3 uses a very very fast FTP
implementation, and it actually might be too fast for your server.
Many hosts do a thing called “nicing” the FTP service, in order to
reserve more processor cycles for the httpd server (Apache). The FTP
server not responding may actually be the truth.

uploading-problems as you describe, I only have if I set my ftp-mode to “automatic” or “non-passive”. As far as I switch the mode to “passive”, it works like a charm. So you could have a look at the “upload-dialog”.
There are a few lists here discussing if and what is necessary to upload, in fact if freeway is uploading the entire page, it detected the need to do so - especially if you switch to a newer version.
Thanks for your help guys. The FTP hosting server does seem to be quite slow, as even when I uploaded the contents of the site folder manually from my PC it still took about 20 minutes to upload 22mb. The apple seemed to give up after 10-15 mintues.
It’s strange because it used to be super quick, I assumed it only ever downloaded the files that were different - however it is now definitely re-uploading the entire site, even when I just change one thing.
Will get on to my hosting company to see if it is their fault!
I had some real problems uploading to my dedicated server when the beta of 5.5 was first released and found it was only working in passive mode, whereas auto was blocked and going nowhere. I told Softpress about this and they did some testing using my server, so everything worked properly by the time 5.5 was no longer a beta. I wonder if there is some strange variation in your server that is causing similar problems.
… open spoken this is not reduced to my server, and still appears with the newest version of FWP (automatic). Sometimes yes, sometimes no with non-passive (or active, don’t know the original expression).
This problems exists since the days of 3.5 when I personally started working with freeway, fixed by switching to passive and never made any thoughts about it until today.
I do not know the difference between passive and active mode, so I never complained the missing one.
Or what’s the advantage of other mode than passive?
There are very few servers out there that normally require connections in active mode from what I can gather. Previously I always used passive mode with Freeway and it worked well enough but problems did occur at first when I tried out the auto mode, however that has now been fixed. In any case I can’t see any practical benefit in changing away from passive mode.
